Depends on how you look at it. The two first of the lenses I have now I got about 20 years ago... But they lay dormant for a long time until I got my K-5 less than 3 years ago. So, lemme see...

Mid ninties: 2 lenses
Last half of 2011: Added 4 = 6
2012: Added 7 = 13
2013: Added 6 = 19
First quarter of 2014: Added 3 = 22
...I think.

A bit ahead of schedule this year, then

Just got my M 40/2.8 today. It will be the last thing I buy from shopgoodwill.com for a while. So 68 lenses is it unless I find something I don't have locally. And I can afford it...

Twitch - a very nice collection of Pentax's best lenses. I can see why you don't use your zooms much given all the nice primes you have.

QuoteOriginally posted by twitch Quote
I have 13, some of which I haven't used in over a year so I really should sell them.

Primes:
DA15 (wonderful lens, love the size and IQ)
FA31 (best lens I own, super IQ, super sharp, lovely rendering...)
FA43 (this has surprised me as I avoided buying it for a long time. 90% of the FA31 IQ but half the weight and price)
FA50 (v. good IQ, sharp enough by ~f/2, just haven't used it since I got the FA43)
FA77 (once adjusted for slight BF it's been fantastic).

Zooms:
DA 12-24 (meh, don't like it, too big with hood, haven't used it since 2012)
DA*16-50 (new to me, haven't used it much yet)
DA*50-135 (excellent IQ for zoom, great range and nice size and weight)
DA*60-250 (excellent IQ but big and heavy with disappointing AF speed)
DA 18-55WR (never used, should sell)
DA 18-135WR (ideal outdoor travel zoom)
DA 55-300 (not used since I got the 60-250, good IQ for price though)
Sigma 17-70 (not used in 3 years, lol)

wtlwdwgn - Have you seen some of our contributors length of collection here, yours is not that long at all.

QuoteOriginally posted by wtlwdwgn Quote
No, it's not under control at all. DA 15 f/4, S-M-C Tak 28 f/3.5, DA* 16-50 f/2.8. Then there are 5 50s and a 55. Then there's the 85 and some longer stuff. The 1.4TC is on backorder. (sigh)

Blue - then you definitely have your LBA under control then cause that's when I started collecting!

Actually, I haven't bought a lens since Nov 2012 which was the DA* 50-135mm.

hmirchev - 7 is a good controlled number another one, which one?

Wow - Lowell,

I can see you have been definitely collecting for a long time and building your collection. No FA limiteds in the group?

Actually no. I am still working on lenses for the Q, starting out with ultra fast tele's which for the Q mean 25/1.4, 37/1.8 and 50/1.4 lenses from CCTV in C mount.

But for my other uses except for some holes I am pretty well satisfied. In M42 mount, I have a kit starting from 16mm through 300 mm, with my only real issue at about 20mm where I would like something. 16-24 is a big gap, but from thre I have 24, 28, 35, 50, 55, 58, 85, 90, 105, 135, 180, 200, 300 so not too bad. (I have duplicate focal lengths from different makers in this range as well) Of course there are 120 and 150mm talks as well but only if I trip over one at a good price

In K/KA mount I have 8, 14, 24, 28, 35, 50, 55, 85, 105, 135, 300, 400 plus two zooms 70-210/3.5 and 200-500/5.6. But I still need something in the 17-20 range as the fap of 14-24 is again too big, and I want something in the 180-200mm range as well.

In most cases my primes are much faster than any available zoom at the focal length with typical maximum apertures for the short ones at between 1.4 and 2, but that is why I got them, to have fast lenses, and a little fun.

When I set out, M42 was only a stop gap solution for a couple of fast options I could not find in K mount, specifically a 35/2 and the 85/1.9. But as I began to play with them, I liked the M43 lenses, so I slowly got more of them, and decided to make a kit. I tried to avoid takumars, where I had k mount pentax lenses, looking for more variation in optical design.

Actually! I got my first camera in late 1980 or early 1981, so yes, a very long time, although the M42lenses all came during the time AD (after digital ). During the AD period I also added several high quality zooms, including the sigma 10-20, the tamron 28-75/2.8 and a sigma 70-200/2.8. All of which have served me well, but when I shoot primes I like the MF lenses. I do that when i am on my time. When I shoot AF zooms, I am usually fitting photography into a family outing or vacation where the schedule is not mine totally to control.

The other point is I like some of the different rendering of the older lenses, especially presets with true round at all apertures irises, the out of focus rendering is just , well, different.

Tele presets in the 100-200mm range make great outdoor portrait lenses.

Since photography for me is a hobby, it is all about play and explore, not about produce and publish. As a result, my lens collection is part of an enjoyment hobby, but it still leaves me with a bag of tools that can produce amazing images, at least in my opinion

I have only 5.

FA 31 Ltd
FA 43 Ltd
DFA 50 macro
DA 18-135
Sigma 70-200
(K-5 body)

Still looking for a wider angle prime or zoom toss up between the FA 20 2.8 or FA 20-35 F4 zoom . I guess I both like the older primes or preparing for the full frame or both.

Lowell - gotta love that AD term. Nice to tell me which zooms you use. I have the Sigma 10-20 and have trouble keeping this or the Da 15 ltd. I like both of them. The other zooms you have also have good reputations. I like you also seem to like shooting manual primes when I'm not trying to take family photos. Still keep trying to use a prime for those but don't get very good results.

Ric - that's a pretty nice list of 5 I wonder what the FA 31 would be compared to the FA 43 I have in terms of the width and composition. Can't afford to pay the for the 31 though right now so I'm interested in hearing what you say about it compared to the 43?

From what I see the FA 20 or 20-35 f4 zoom are hard to come by? That's why i picked up the Tokina ATX Pro 20-35mm f2.8 for full frame potential and like its quick focus and range.

Ok, another one on the way.

I just found out that it might be as useful to ask "how much" as "how many". No, not money (I don't want to know!), but weight. Seems I total about 6.5 kg of lenses now - or about 1 stone for those metrically challenged.

vjacesslav - That's a good range to cover. Which ones are you keeping forever?

If they average the same as mine they should be about 45 kg.

Or a lot more if you are into long lenses. I am increasingly aiming for small and light stuff.

Oh, but that surely doesn't count. I mean, who could resist a 15 Limited?!

Did that help?
