Yes, I know what that entails, I just don't like the idea of actually spending more than $25 on lenses.
Primes? Bah, get an F 35-70. Like a bag full of primes.

Here's what pisses me off about shopgoodwill. Some of the goodwills are all right, they ship with USPS. But other goodwills, especially the ones that usually have Pentax gear (one in Portland, OR), ship UPS. The one in Portland always prints the shipping label on Fridays. They don't actually give it to UPS until Monday, because UPS doesn't work on weekends. And on holiday weekends it's Tuesday before it actually ships.

Attachment 235358

So because of Labor Day it will be 12 days from the time I paid for the item until the time I actually receive the item. Every time I buy from Goodwill Industries of the Columbia-Willamette I always say it will be the last time, yet I always seem to buy something else from them...

OH I KNOW!!!! "Please wait 5 business days for shipment". I ordered from San Diego once and I'm in LA. That should be 3 days max maybe 5. It took them 9. Columbia Willamette(sp?), Seattle, Rainer have the best Pentax stuff. Unfortunately shipping tends to be a problem. I think I saw an 85mm f2 once about year ago. But that was before I really was into cameras. Also thanks for the heads up on Portland. I don't think I've ever seen them.

I agree with that. Best $39 I ever spent.

I had that lens on my Sfx-n, i didn't realize it was such a good performer. Maybe cause i never gave it enough credit, i thought it was just a cheap plastic toy, and sold it as soon as possible for almost nothing.
I had an excuse, the AF was quite bad, and i preferred MF lenses. As walk-around lens ready for anything, i had the Pentax-A 35-105mm f/3.5.
Still have that lens, it's really a bag of primes, fast, and wonderfully built.
It is super-cheap too, cause it's very common.
That's truly one of the most convenient Pentax glasses around!

cheers

Paolo

Sell your wife's lenses then buy more? Bold plan. Maybe not wise, but bold.

savoche - I guess having a good habit will always be better than a bad one, especially an expensive on elite smoking?

QuoteOriginally posted by savoche Quote
I'm a firm believer of not torturing myself like that. I did start a spreadsheet for my lenses, including what I had paid for them, but ended up finding the total weight of them far more interesting....

Oh, and whenever I find something I want I always start calculating much I save by not smoking. Which, in Norway, is a heck of a lot. By not smoking 20 a day I can finance a 31 in 3 months. Damn.

Well, the last lens element is different...reason enough to keep them, right

Looks like this thread is turning into a boasting competition

through the viewfinder: My Lenses

Note that some Nikkor and Hassy glas on the list is not in my possession, but the rest is. A bit over 200. I'm trying to get it all into a well-organized excel-file...

Took me 3 decades to collect 31 lenses. And most of mine were cheap.

oscaletrains - that's quite the mixed collection of AF, MF, TC's you have here. Question is how many cameras do you have to go with these?

Lowell Goudge - yes insurance, that's a good idea of keeping a spreadsheet of lenses, cameras, and expensive accessories. So how long did it take you to get to 60 lenses is the question. I got scared last year when I had acquired over 30 in one year! I had to sell some or a lot, lol.

QuoteOriginally posted by Lowell Goudge Quote
I keep a list, in roadmap format of lenses and focal lengths. I do this to identify holes in my line up. I have lots of holes if you define a hole as 0.5-1.0mm in focal length. Very few if you consider actual focal lengths manufactured.

I also have a list fully maintained of serial numbers. I didn't do this out of a desire to track everything, but when I did a relocation to France, I had to provide an inventory. For the mover's insurance, I just kept it up to date when I returned home.

My lens collection, now approaching 60 considering things for the Q, gets some consistent use, my three main zooms for example, and then, at random, I take 3-4 legacy lenses out of the collection and go play. I don't track what I used when, it is really based upon what do I feel like doing today

mattb123 - Matt, that would be the logical and reasonable way of acquiring and keeping lenses but do you ever sell them or do you keep them all?

QuoteOriginally posted by mattb123 Quote
The way I identify holes in my lineup is to go out shooting. If I can't get the shot I envision because I don't have the right lens then I add that lens to my wish list.
But I'm not trying to be a collector, I just want the lenses I need to get the shots I want.

Joel B - the internet has doomed a lot of us with LBA.

monochrome - spare parts don't count for purchasing lenses?

Bought two lenses this week - $18 K55/1.8 that will donate its appendage to the eunuched K35/2 and a better copy of the K135/2.5 +case and hood (actually, an exquisite copy). The product isn't any better but it sure looks good making them.

Net no change and I get to keep the adorable Sears 50/2 that goes with the KS.

---------- Post added 09-03-14 at 08:53 PM ----------

Sagitta - you can always get the F35-70mm lens. It covers a lot of ground and see the reviews of what people say about them, they're just about as good a prime.

And why are they so damn expensive in the first place ? I want a wide angle in 14mm range, and the cheapest thing out there is $300, the better ones three times that. Holy cow. !

I don't think it started with internet. I had LBA back in the 80's and early 90's. But then I red ads in the local paper for people selling cameras and lenses, or regulary walked past the 2nd hand windows of the best camera shops in my area. But of course internet speeds up things,..
