Well I didn't really want to look at this list, but here is my current list of lenses. It turns that I have several duplicates, but I did not include those in my count for the "2-days per lens" (183), and as a matter of fact before I checked this morning I would have guessed that I owned a much smaller number than this <sigh>. In the spirit of full disclosure I did include my Q mount and 110 mounts lenses in the total as I currently use both of those series on my Q7.

It's hard for me to believe that this originally started many years ago with a Takumar 50mm and a Spotmatic (I had other cameras before that, in other formats, but that was the beginning of this list) and when I originally added a Takumar 35mm and a 200mm to my camera bag I couldn't imagine ever owning any more than those three lenses. (I blame those darned photo ads in the back of Popular and Modern Photography magazines those used to be the first thing I would turn to when I'd get each new issue) What's really worrisome is that I have gotten rid of many others over the years (looks like I could use for some more of that now too, at least the duplicates) Some of the older lenses didn't seem to preform as well under the minute scrutiny of digital compared to film, but many of them now have gotten a second lease on life on a full spectrum converted K-01. The lack of coatings and smaller number of elements works very well with UV shooting.......now if I could just find a quartz lens.....

I was thinking of taking a group shot photo of the lot of them, but that will definitely have to wait until the wife is out of town ;-) and I'm not even sure I want to see that....

Steve - that list man you could have your own Pentax store selling lenses, where do you store them all, like do you have like dryboxes for all of them or a special room with shelves full of lenses displayed prominently and some of the hard to find lenses in that list, wow, is all I can say.

I'm thinking the 10-17mm would be a fun lens for auto show pictures.

The Phoenix 100mm macro finally arrived. Now I have to decide whether to keep or sell the Tamron 52BB. Who am I kidding? Me sell a lens...

Better yet, when Steve actually gets a photo of all his lenses, print it out and just leave it on the desk on "this is what it could be dear "

Thanks Steve, you make all those like me feel a bit relieved!
I don't have a small number of lenses (i listed those usable with Pentax cameras in my previous post), but my list pales compared to yours.
After quickly browsing your long list, two thoughts come to my mind:
- wow, i have plenty of lenses functionally overlapping each other, but at least i don't own identical items! oops, not really true, now i realize i have a few... though they are large format, and this forum is about PK/M42 stuff, isn't it?
- it is very interesting to notice that, even in such a vast number of lenses, it's still possible to get the "taste" of the owner, his photographic preferences.
Only one soft focus and one Tamron (while i really love SF lenses - i sorely miss the Pentax 28mm - and i like Tamron SP lenses, used with PKA Adaptall-2 rings).
I'm a little envious of the good number of recent/contemporary Pentax glasses, made for cropped sensors. I don't own as many "useful" lenses, and recently i'm mainly after silly obsessions.
An example: german M42 teles, like Voigtlander, Schneider, Steinheil, Isco, Zeiss, etc.
It is a taste you don't share. I see you have other preferences, that brought you plenty of desirable objectives (which show a refined, yet omnivore, taste).

The idea of taking a selfie with all the lenses isn't so bad.
I like that sort of pics! I've seen a few i really like.
I'd love to see yours

Cheers

P

I used to have a few more Tamron lenses, but I had a friend that REALLY liked them so we made a few trades back in the day, so now I'm down to one and a couple of teleconverters. I did get to use a 28 Soft at one point, and I really liked it but I never got around to getting one....maybe I should pick one up. I don't use the soft lenses as much on digital as I did with film, and while I do still shoot with it, film is something else that I also use a lot less of these days.

I have actually looked at getting one of those...I do like fish-eyes and I used to shoot a lot of multi shot panoramas and spherical orbits. The Theta sure looks like fun and it fits in my pocket which is something I couldn't say about the panoramic equipment and mounts I used to use!

......How are you deciding which lens to take when you go out?
I used to take everything with me but that hasn't happened since probably the early to mid 80's. I have several different 'core configurations' that are set up in different bags, shoulder bags, messenger bags, backpacks, holsters (another thing I have collected too many of over the years, I have always been looking for the "perfect bag") They usually consist of three or four lenses with accessories and then I'll throw in a few specialty lenses before I leave that might either compliment what I'm going out to shoot or maybe supplement it. For instance I usually throw in a 'just-in-case' macro lens, the specific lens being based on what else I am carrying at the time. If I'm shooting with screw mount lenses and I'm only taking one body I usually just take screw mounts so I don't have to switch out the adapter. (I really enjoy the older multi-bladed aperture preset lenses, even more so now on digital than when I used them on film) If I'm shooting with a manual film body (KX, MX, LX etc.) I don't bother taking auto focus lenses. If I am on a trip and have to travel light I will usually take a couple of zooms or a set of the small DA limiteds. If I'm shooting with the full spectrum K-01 I only take older uncoated lenses (The uncoated Helios 44K being my favorite there). And not to mention the entire Q7 kit fits in a very small bag and can work in some situations where a bigger camera like the K3 can't, so it gets to tag along on most outings. The one thing I do try to do is keep lenses that shoot, or operate, similarly together to minimize having to think about how a particular lens works. I don't know how many times over the years that I would be using say an A series lens and then switch quickly to a K or M series and forget that auto aperture isn't working anymore. Or switch from a quick shift lens to one that doesn't, It's cost me more than a few shots over the years that's for sure.

The thing is, while every lens has it's limitations, I think they (almost) all have their good points as well. (I say almost because I have owned some real paper weights over the years). A lot of the Soviet era lenses have crazy bokeh that is just crazy enough to work in some situations but looks like crap in others. But then again some of them actually have really smooth bokeh. The 31 Limited is a fantastic lens, but it can flare pretty bad in some situations where maybe the K30 or the DA20-40 won't (BTW, the old Pentacon 30 can more than hold it's own with modern day lenses). The Tokina ATX-Pro lenses are really nice underrated lenses, great color, sharp and built like tanks, but if you don't like purple fringe there better not be any white areas in the shot if you're shooting close to wide open, oh and the autofocus is probably the noisiest of any lenses I own, so manual only in quiet areas like churches . (I actually prefer manual focus in a lot of situations, just guess I never got out of the habit) And lastly a lens that is a little soft in the corners doesn't matter at all when you're isolating your subject.
