Hi,

Relative newb here, my current kit consists of:

K50
Pentax DA 18-55 F3.5-5.6 WR
Pentax HD DA 55-300 F4-5.8 WR
Pentax DA 35mm F2.4
Pentax A-50 F1.7
Tamron 17-50 F2.8
Sigma 18-35 F1.8

I'm trying to keep my kit relatively small (6 seems a bit much for me) but hoping to cover off most types of shooting situations. Any advice on what I should add/subtract would be greatly appreciated

I will need to do a new count but I have added a lot of lenses recently, so many that they no longer fit in the space I have for photographic gear at home. I need to sell quite a few.

Much of the problem is that I get lenses for bargain prices meaning to sell them on at a profit to fund other photographic equipment, but that second part never happens....

Partially that's due to my experience selling photographic gear here in Spain - people take the complete p*ss with the advertised prices. I can advertise a lens for a very reasonable price, even below the usual going rate, and I will still get offer after offer for only half of that, far less than I know it's worth. 95% of people who contact me are complete time-wasters

Right now my stable has grown.

DA21 and DA40 Limited
DFA 100 macro WR
HD 16-85
DA* 60-250

I've added the M50 F1.4 for an upcoming test, it will likely go again after that, and more importantly the FA77 Limited, because I found it at a great price. I'm not sure I need it (of course I don't "NEED"it!) and intended to play with it a bit before reselling it. But the focal length is very fun on the K-1, I'll see where that leaves me.

Good for you rzakbzak. Welcome to the PF forums. Be interesting if you can keep your lens count below the average here

Tell us how you like the sigma 18-35 with the K50.

I'll give you a shot at your current list. I think a lot of people wondered a couple of years ago how the Sigma 18-35 was going to turn out in actual photos so if yours doesn't have any focus issues it's a good length for landscapes. The 35 is underrated as a macro lens I think. The 2 zooms you have cover off weather sealing for outdoor activities for you.

You'll get a lot of people who like the D* or the 3 amigos Fa 31, 43, 77 limited lens for either primes or zooms so it's hard to say. I love all my lenses that I have

bdery,
Nice adds to the collection, definite high end. You're making me think I should take the 3 amigos out with my K-01 out more often, especially at our art gallery and see how well it does.

Thanks Richard, I figured after reading through some of this thread that this may not be the best place to ask if I'm looking to downsize

I'll check out those primes, but hope I don't catch a case of LBA along the way

Let me also contribute this thread. Currently I have the following

DA 15mm limited
DA-L 18-55mm, the plastic one
Vivitar 28/3.5 some of these Vivitar beasts
DA 50/1.8
A 50/1.7
M 85/2
Jupiter 85/2
A 135/2.8

However, actually I am using only the 15, 50's (mostly the AF one) and the A 85mm. The kit 18-55 has proven to be a perfect cheap wide angle, however now it seem useless given the 15lim. The Soviet Jupiter 85mm f2 is in too bad condition and was taken from one of my friends just to try the focus length. However, the A85/2 is a perfect sharpy lens with vivid colors, that is strongly recommended to anyone. Vivitar has been bought long time ago and hasn't been used much since then. Useless focal length for me. Finally, the A 135/2.8 can do very nice portrays, but is too tele for the purpose.

Now I am thinking, that it could be a good idea to replace everything with F>=50 by DA* 50-135/2.8, but currently I do not want to bother myself with selling these cheap lenses.

Btw, all this becomes attached to my K3.

Since I'm currently reviewing two loaned lenses for Pentaxforums, I don't have as much time as I'd wish with the FA77. It's a wonderful lens, for sure. Maybe I'm not as dazzled as others might be because my lineup is pretty stellar (if I say so myself). The more I do portraits with it, the more impressed I am however.

Regarding the 50, I've had a M50 F2, A50 F1.4, numerous F50 F1.7, FA 50 macro and FA50 F1.4 before, so the M50 F1.4 isn't particularly new for me.

Edvard,
Too bad the Jupiter isn't in great shape anymore and you have the varied focal lengths covered off except on the long end?

Keep contributing or buying or adding

bdery,
Good that you're doing some reviews of lenses. I'm surprised the varied use of the FA77, I honestly believe that it's an underused lens in my case, even though the shots I have from it I really like. The bokeh for portraits and even for landscapes, surprisingly is very good.

Aslyfox,
We should call you foxy You have a lot of zooms in your list. If you wanted you could sell some of them and pickup some really good primes depending on where your hobby is at right now

thanks for the comment

right now my interest is in wild life photography and also I am kinda interested in macro

we just returned from an celebratory, (25th Wedding Ann.) "northern circuit safari" in Tanzania and are in the midst of planning for our first trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks next summer

the zooms give me good flexibility immediately but I am interested in good prime but -----

here is one of the photos from the safari, this one from the Serengeti National Park

mother and young cub (estimated at less than 4 months old b/c of its coat) feeding on a Thompson's Gazelle.

When owning the DA-L 50-200mm I realized, that I do not need these focal distances. And indeed, even 135mm is too long for me, so no need to cover that end. Hence, currently, I am not buying lens as these are enough.

For a good while now, there's almost always a review being performed! So many lenses to test, so little time.
