Hands-On Video with the Pentax 1.4x Teleconverter

While discussing plans for our upcoming CP+ interview with Pentax, my journalist got a chance to play with the new 1.4x teleconverter. Here's the footage:

I'm hoping it gets bad reviews because that is a killer price...if it is good I will have to get one

Meh, it's black and not white like Canon's, brutal!
(What do I win?)

It's not ridiculous if it out-performs T/C's from other brands.

I don't think it will outperform the Nikon/Canon but we'll see, eventually.

The days of Pentax lenses being better values than Canon/Nikon sadly seem to be over. Enjoy inexpensive cameras.

My guess the review will center on the Tamron 1.4 and the Pentax F 1.7x Auto Focusing Adapter as to what the IQ of this adapter is.

If it matches the Tamron, great, I have one already.
If it matches the Pentax F 1.7, great I have two already.

If it beats them both, I'm going to be out $600.

$400-500 for the F 1.7 and $200-300 for the Tamron. BAM, you just made $100 and have two T/C's.

I'm still looking forward to testing this TC with the DA*300/4!

I might "have to" sell my TC's: Pentax 1.7X adapter and a Tamron 1.4X.
We shall see.

Adam, how is the feel of it? It looks strikingly similar to the Q to K adapter, does it feel similar too?
Wonderful build it that's true.

I sold my T/C's in anticipation of this one, over a year ago!

That's OK, though, I didn't really use them. I didn't like the AF of either T/C combo.

Sold mine just before the first real leaks appeared, putting my faith in the roadmap.

Never thought of using a TC on a macro lens. N hope Sigma will give what we want in the 180/150 2.8's.

The change in exposure is not linear - perhaps the lighting changed in the room?
In first comparison original shot is 1/500 f5 ISO100 and with TC it is 1/500 f5.6 ISO 200
In second comparison original is 1/800 f6.3 ISO100 and with TC it is 1/800 f7.1 ISO 100

If it can AF properly with SDM on my DA*300 I will buy it. If not then I will continue to crop (or use my Q7 with the DA*300)

Really looking forward to the reviews of the new Pentax 1.4 teleconverter. It looks like the perfect match for a K-3 and DA*300mm for a fully weather sealed birding outfit.
