How good is 50-135 for macro?

Doesn't focus close enough without help. If a few extension tubes or front a dual element closeup lens is added is it good then? The Olympus 50-200 2.8-3.5 is preferred by many for macro. Just wondered if the Pentax is similar. Just thinking.

It's not a macro lens

The 50-135mm is a very poor choice for macro work, it doesn't focus that close, nor is the maximum focal length very long. This means the maximum magnification isn't very high. It's a portrait lens, plain and simple, a fantastic portrait lens optimized for 10-15 feet distances.

If you want a macro lens get a macro lens, don't get a zoom that has the word "MACRO" attached. Those are not macro lenses.

Macro lenses have a flat field of focus, and high edge sharpness. Portrait lenses are the opposite, peak center sharpness, high contrast and often quite pronounced depth of field curvature.

What Omega said. If you attempt to use extension tubes or bellows, a fast prime is more preferable, due to inevitable light loss.
