FA 50 1.4 focus ring

I was looking at a FA 50 1.4 in a local pawn shop and could feel a "click" when turning the focus ring.
It seems to happen about 4 times when turning the focus ring from stop to stop.
I had also looked at a used FA 50 1.4 at a local camera shop and noticed the same "click" when turning the focus ring.
In both cases the lens was not mounted on a camera.
Is this normal for this lens?

My FA 50 1.4 is smooth as butter throughout the entire focus throw.

edit: a click while turning the focus ring would make me think there is a problem with a gear that is attached to the motor.

It should turn smoothly. Sounds like some sort of mechanical defect to me.

Thanks much.
It didn't seem right to me as my K and M lenses are all smooth from stop to stop.

I've never had a lens click while turning the focus ring unless one of the ball bearings was out of it. Leave it in the shop.

Leave it in the shop.
OR: negotiate a substantially discounted price.
