Lenses with resolution to match K20D

The K20D's 14.6 MP resolution is often discounted - It seems like the general consensus is that
current sensor technology 'sweet-spot' is 10-12MP. I'm not so sure. After playing with my Viv
S1 105 macro for the past couple days on the K20D, I think the 14.6MP combined with excellent
high ISO performance brings new capabilities to high resolution macro lenses. Cropping will
now take on new importance - my ability to crop a shot taken with a high resolution lens
is nothing short of stunning.

I think the sensors coming out in the next few years will now start to do the great lenses justice -
starting with the Pentax K20D + Vivitar S1 105 in 2008.

Here's an untouched (no sharpening, no PP of any kind) jpeg straight from the camera, with crop below:

WOW! Amazing!

I need to get over my LBA (haha!) before I even seriously consider upgrading my body (no, not the one I live in, although I could stand a little upgrading in the way of some lipo here and there).

Seriously, I may wind up upgrading to the K20 when everybody else is busy upgrading to the K30.

Very overcast today, and I got out there later - much less light.

So here are ISO 1600 shots with the Vivitar S1 105 macro. There's some visible chroma noise in the crops
(crops are labeled below,) but uncropped? You be the judge.

wow ... just wow, that's ridiculous
megapixels definitely do matter, but the K20D has the clean output to back it up

Yeah. The sensor just keeps up with the glass, that's what amazes me - the Viv S1 105 is arguably the best
macro you can buy for K mount (along with the VL 125, maybe Tamron 90, a few others) and the sensor
just says bring it on, I will resolve what you send me down the tube.

It's almost kinda humbling. I have an unworthy feeling right now. I was able to keep the shutter speed
high enough to counteract hand shake with a huge heavy lens because of the fact I could go to ISO 1600
with those results. Wow.

I also can't wait until I have more than a few minutes to spend, in some actual good light, and with a tripod -
I wonder what ISO 100 looks like with this combo?

Hey, it's nature!

Those little hopping buggers are actually cramping my macro style right now -
the nice purple flowers I shot yesterday were all chewed down to the stems today.

further on the back deck... same combo @ ISO 3200 :
