M 28/2.8 Version 2?

Just purchased this lens second hand in excellent shape.

Is this the late release of the M 28/2.8, the rare Version 2 that I have heard about?

Is there any optical difference between the Version 1 and 2?

I was just testing my copy today, my copy is probably version 1. What is the difference. And mine has fungus on the back

Here is few test shots done today in f/2.8 with K10D in jpg. I have not got used to my K10D yet and my 'pp' are over saturated.

Had I known there is fungus, I wouldn't buy the lens.

I am also not sure what the difference is between the M1 and M2. Is the M1 is better, or the A? If so, I would try and acquire the better one.

Sorry to here you have fungus. How does that happen? Humidity?

Anyone know how the A28/2.8 compares to the M version in build, feel & PQ?

no.

the A version feels just as good as the M. its a little lighter due to the focusing ring being plastic instead of metal but the build quality is just as good. I much prefer the A version for an obvious reason but the A really is just as good as the M (if you get a good copy that hasn't been abused) other than the A contact I do believe the A version had an updated optical formula so maybe the A is a slightly better lens? I cant confirm that though.

as for the version 2, yes you have it.

[QUOTE=séamuis;225040]no.

The M version 2 is more or less an A lens minus the contacts, and supposedly has the same optics (i.e. different from version 1).

I haven't used a 28mm lens better than the A, and I've used a lot of 28mm lenses.

Still not sure if version 2 is better than version 1.

I also have a Vivitar 28mm f/2.5 and I wonder how it will compare. A very good 28mm that I have seen come from Vivitar 28mm f/2.8 from Komine with serial number starting 37. I saw Jesherman999 posting great pictures on the lens. My copy of Vivitar 28mm f/2.5 from Kiron don't seem to match up with the Komine copy, although I find praises on Kiron 28mm f/2.0 but that would be expensive to look for.

A picture or two from my Kiron/Vivitar 28mm f/2.5 testing at wide open aperture with K10D, my jpg setting leaves edges not as sharp as I would like. I am still struggling with JPG before I find the workflow and tool for RAW

circular ringed like bokeh in off focus rendering
sometimes pleasant, sometime kind of odd

I am trimming down my gear, both of my 28mm may go to marketplace at some point:

Both the Pentax 28mm and the Vivitar 28mm f/2.5 from Kiron in my gear have strengths in different areas. For IQ and bokeh, I prefer the Pentax though the Kiron gives circular ringed lights in bokeh.

For focusing, I prefer my Vivitar 28mm f/2.5 from Kiron as it has the best focusing ring that I have used for manual focus -- it is precise, smooth and has a wide focus throw. The Pentax one is good and adequate but nowhere near as excellent and outstanding like that from Kiron and I assume the Komine version are just as good. The pentax 28mm is very thin, small and I call it the poor man's choice of pancake. My Kiron is much bigger but I prefer the ergonomics on Kiron 28mm f/2.5 over my Pentax M 28mm f/2.8.
