I ordered a Sigma SD1 via eBay from Japan recently (it was 33% cheaper, which is $750) and had no problems at all, but that is no guarantee as there are many, many merchants with varying levels of honesty in every country. Your biggest risk is that you don't get what you ordered... (ie: non-WR older 100 macro)
The most distinguishing factor with any overseas camera-related purchase is warranty, in case something goes wrong after eBay and Paypal waiting periods are over. You will get NO warranty coverage from Pentax USA on grey-market products, which is what this lens represents.
Sigma includes a "worldwide 1 year warranty" which is the same as their Canadian warranty for the SD1, so I didn't risk much there. Lenses are different, where we get a 10 year warranty for Sigma lenses purchased in Canada! Well worth the extra $$.
