Lens Hood for Pentax 50mm 1.8?

Looking for a good metal or plastic hood for this lens. It seems that Pentax does not make one. This lens uses a 52mm lens hood size. Any suggestions for one? Any existing Pentax hoods fit? I see third party vendors seem to have some. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Steve

Fifty Hood?

Hello Steve,
I've used 3rd-party hoods for both the DA 35mm and 50mm. The fifty is a 'Fogta 52', metal, straight (no taper or flare) that's 20mm (just under 3/4") from the front to the threads. I believe it's called 'standard' shape, or tele shape. You could probably use a slightly longer one, but this works pretty well.
They're under $10 USD from many Hong Kong sellers, I bought a couple flared and straight in 49mm and 52mm.
Good Luck!
Ron

I use some screw on plastic hood that I got off of Ebay, there are a gazillion of them. Search for 52mm lens hood. You can get them for very cheap (like.. two bucks). Petal or round doesn't really matter with the 50 but I found that some rubber collapsible hood can start to create some vignetting when fully extended (some, not all)

eBay is your friend for stuff like this. Inexpensive, and free shipping from China/HongKong. Best choice is a metal hood with the 'telephoto' designation. As long as you're not using it on full frame, you'll have no problem with vignetting.

I noticed that Pentax makes a 52mm for the 18-55mm lens. I wonder if this would work?

I've bought several of these. They come in lots of sizes. You can't get much cheaper.

Won't work, the 18-55 use a bayonet filter mount, the 50 can only take screw on

The hood for the 18-55 kit lens is the same diameter. Might work. I'll know for sure on Monday after B&H delivers my K3 with grip and free 50. But I am doubtful. The hood for the kit lens is a bayonet mount.

To resurrect this thread, no the 18-55 kit lens hood will not work with the 50 F1.8!

I use a Nikon HR-1. It's better suited for this lens than the Pentax RH-RA52 or JJC LH-RA52, wich are huge.
The Nikon HR-1 has perfect size considering a 50 mm lens on APS-C senzor (75 mm equivelent).
And has a good quality construction too. The rubber is fixed firmly on the metal ring,
much better than in the case of Pentax RH-RC49mm on Pentax DA 35/f2.4.

I'm using the Hama Telematic S. It's collapsible and also FF-compatible on the K-1.

I use a 52mm squeeze type lens hood . Any one will work I happen to have a sigma perfect hood . I wanted the hood to flip back so when not in use it was over the body of the lens so it wasn't sticking out al the time . All you have to do is cut 2 slots in a lens cap so when you flip the lens hood upside down the bottom of the grips fit into the slot you cut into the lens cap. I used a round small burr to cut it out and I cut a small undercut in the clips so it would lock it in place ,you can't pull it apart , It holds nice and tight . It only takes a few minutes to do .Here are a few photo of what I did . , , , , , /p/2kBVLYr]150843053_225308302632011_1202070359926693476_n[/url] by myridevlx600, on Flickr,
