I Doubt that HD coatings could improve upon the already excellent flare resistance of the FA31:

Pentax K5IIs - SMCP-FA31mm f/1.8 ASPH Limited.

I had to lower the contrast in this image substantially to get the look I wanted
.
I think it could get better. It doesn't flare as badly as most zooms, but it definitely flares more than most of the DA limiteds.

Still is pretty good....

1 it means they won't be canceled
2 it means FF is approaching
3 any FA limited updated lens will exist in the new lens line up.

ergo any lens not being updated ta ta , goodbye see ya.
Can this comment be made a sticky? Can i be required reading on Login before one can progress to anything else?

I've searched a bit for the source, but cannot find it. It could be that I misremember. It could also be that this came up in a Hirakawa Jun-related discussion and as such don't actually relate to the 31, but the other two FA limiteds. I'm pretty sure I didn't just imagine the whole thing.
Here is one of the places it was discussed about back in 2008; IMO it is one of the legends, that might be true, but real source and confirmation is missing.

Absolutely. The fact that the FAs are being updated is terrific news.

Not if they make the new ones APS-C only to save glass/weight.

But hey, what do I know. We'll see.

The it would no longer be an updated FA but a new DA lens.

and
ergo any lens not being updated ta ta , goodbye see ya.

would apply.

Wouldn't make any sense. The focal lengths aren't exactly great for APS-C, but in addition, Pentax already has a DA 35 limited, a DA 40 limited and a DA 70 limited. No reason to do a redux to make these lenses APS-C specific. Beyond which, it would require a total redesign, unlike relatively small tweaks necessary to add quick shift and HD lens coating.

Oh, Anxiety! Should I now buy this FA 31mm gem as planned and avoid a less perfect ("updated") lens?

Or should I wait and buy a just as perfect FA 31mm with wonderfull WR added?

Well, in some ways, the 01 prime is like a Q-mount equivalent of an FA 31 on APS-C.

No aperture ring.
Well without an aperture ring it will no longer be useful for 35mm film cameras. Isn't that the feature most useful for the FA lens lineup?

Without an aperture ring it may as well be a DA series lens.

They will be too close of the DA limited in term of specification, and too expensive for a marginal speed improvement.
