Pentax SMC-M 1:1,4/50 für LX, ME, MX, in 24 Karat Gold - eBay (item 290223549219 end time Apr-27-08 13:17:16 PDT)

the only gold lens produced was for a special edition of the LX I believe and it was a 1.2 so someone purposely had their lens gold plated.... what for? looks cool though.

BLING BLING BABY!

It reminds me of my co-worker that has a diamond encrusted D&G cell phone.

Oi! To have disposable income again.....

For my opinion, you need to check out this small note on Mark Roberts's Viv S1 70-210mm page:

Note 3: Version 4 was also made in a hideous gold plated variation. Optically and mechanically identical to the standard version 4, but with a finish intended, apparently, to appeal to gangsta rappers and pimps. It might be worth seeking out if you have the equally ghastly gold plated Pentax LX. ;-)

Can't imagine that it would be better than my SMC-M 50/1.4 that I already have.
But if you have the money and the inclination why not? It would certainly make you stand out from the crowd! lol Personally I think that if you could afford this then the money would better spent elsewhere say on a Leica MP?

Personally I would very much like to own the LX system. It would fit in nicely with my Z-1 and MZ-S thank you very much

Here's an entry from B Dimitrov's webpage showing a gold-plated M28/2.8 he recently added to the website. There seems to be a trend here.
