K-3, TC's, DA 560/Sigma 500, Latest Firmware Observations

So I decided to do a test with the two TC's that I own as well as the DA 560 and the Sigma 500. I don't have the Pentax 1.4 AW, so I don't know how that one is. But, after the firmware update I can confirm that both are snappy on the Sigma 500. The 560, however, hunted with the Tamron. By hunted I mean it got there, but didn't decide to lock, not moved the focus back and forth. Took me a patient 15-20 seconds to take a picture (AF Priority = Focus) despite it looking in focus in the OVF. The Sigma 1.4 + DA 560? 100% incompatible. Not only would it not lock in place (which I found odd), but it seemed the circuitry wasn't lining up because the back LCD screen was going haywire.

I then wanted to make sure it was just the 560, so I tried the Sigma on the DA* 60-250, but it wouldn't even mount. Nothing I own other than the 500 was able to work with the Sigma 1.4x. Interesting realization.

The Tamron 1.4x works with all my K mount lenses (Pentax or 3rd Party).

Neither the Tamron nor the Sigma report the focal length as FL x 1.4 - it still reads as the lens' native FL.

Also, the Sigma 500/K-3 (no TC attached) with the latest firmware? It's the fastest AF I've ever experienced. Ever. To try to describe it, it's no longer a fast version of watching the focus point come into focus. It's like flipping a switch. Turning on a light. It's literally the closest I've ever found to describe "instantaneous." I'll have to play around a lot more, but suffice it to say - holy Scheiße batman.

You have a DA 560!?

Also, I would assume the hunting is mostly because of 5.6 vs 4.5.

Maybe he's got an equipment budget that says "US Government procurement" on it?
(Of course, his DA*560mm might also have been painted olive green and stenciled to say "Hammer, nail driver, hand-powered" on it... I think $7000 hammers are still procured these days, right?)

My assumption too - will be interesting to see the results with the Pentax 1.4x AW TC...
