An update, there are still units available as of Sat am Melbourne time.

I was looking for a 16-45mm as my second lens purchase after a Tamy 70 - 300mm but the price on the Sigma was just too good to miss.

My lens lineup is now the kit lens, which I might treat as semi disposable for fireline work and my nice SMC 35 - 105 zoom, good for portraits, it's too unbalanced and heavy to use for fire images.

The 17 - 70 would seem to suit the style of photography on the fireline that I'm developing.

I'm finding that if I'm not fast in framing images close in to fire, both the camera and the lens are getting quite warm to touch. The radiant heat is warming the camera way faster than the exposed bits of my face. Mind you we do melt the odd bit of vehicle body work in the same situation.

Looking forward to posting some shots of the new lens.

Got mine like 3 weeks ago. Bought it in the US to save money. If only I'd had a crystal ball

You'll love this lens, Kenny ;

As to buying stuff from the states

1.How long did you wait b4 you got the lens
2.Is it saving that much
3.any customs problems(did you declare any taxes,duties paid)
4.Is there a list of sellers that you would recommended

cheers

Yes it's national but there's only a few stores in Sydney. Helps to go to their website Google is your friend.

kjao & myself bought several items from B&H Photo in New York recently in one go - it arrived in 3 days (ordered Monday arrived in Melbourne Thursday the same week), I don't know how much kjao saved but the $450 I paid was a $300 saving over Australian prices (battery grip & Metz flash). No customs issues/taxes as value of items was well under AU$1000.

Normally Ted's isn't this cheap ... I usually go off Digital Camera Warehouse for Australian pricing as I think it is the cheapest Pentax gear available in Australia. I then compare overseas with overseas prices.

I am under the impression it is Melb City store only ... I think they are clearing stock out if it is this cheap.
