For Melbourne (Aus) members...

... Teds in the city is having a sale on Sigma 17-70/2.8-4.5 lens in Pentax mount for AU$299.95! I just darted down and got myself one but unfortunately I don't have my camera with me today so can't test it straight away.

Since I got a $100 Ted's voucher plus I just sold a lens for $160 yesterday, basically I got this new lens for $40! =)

cheers
Kenny

Hey James, I'm afraid you'd love the Sigma 1770 more than the DA*1650, end up you'd let the DA* go

Really great price I'd say. I'd love to buy one too, at that price

Now I just wanna cry (but there's no crying smiley)

Got mine like 3 weeks ago. Bought it in the US to save money. If only I'd had a crystal ball

You'll love this lens, Kenny ;

Hi Frank. I already see what it is capable of last few weeks. That lens really covers a big range of focal length and the lens is a consistent performer giving sparks to the image really well. I believe it will be a great street shooting lens.

I already see your past shots from this lens, taken in singapore. Maybe the ones from Shanghai as well. They are all outstanding.

AU 300 is just a bit too hard to resist to get a zoom like this.

Hi James

I know exactly what you mean. At AU$300, this is actually cheaper than the US price! Originally I was thinking of getting the 18-250 lens as my knock-about/travel lens but then I saw the low price plus I hardly use anything longer than my Tamron 28-75/2.8, and not to mention all the praises that I have heard, I decided to get the Sigma instead.

I didn't have time to test the lens properly as it was already dark when I got home. But I did take some shots in the study and from the limited number of shots (about 6), the lens is looking promising!

The lens has unsharp corners but I do not really care about that. Just for street shots and photo blogs, no one would notice the corners being unsharp or whatever.

I like the clarity of images produced by this lens. (Joel has this zoom). I really love the feel of the lens. Now the price is soooooo good to be true. My investment port folio has crushed along with the US stock market. At least I got something to gain from this :ugh:

... is it worth getting this to replace a 16-45??? Can't justify having both.

Well, sigma 17-70 has no CA what so ever regardless what aperture is used.

It also has strong colour and take up highlight very well. But contrast is always higher with pentax 16-45 ...

Bokeh in sigma 17-70 is ok but at least not as chalky as Pentax Da 16-45

I saw that advertised in the Green Guide yesterday, excellent price.
Roentarre, I've looked at pics from mine many times and it seems sharp right across the frame including the corners.

Only when you printed the images, you would see the soft corners

On landscape shots taken at f8, it is quite visisble to see soft corners when the frame is filled with scenery elements like leaves, bushes or rocks instead of expanse of space, ocean and sky

Ah, meh, better leave it. Can't be bothered selling the 16-45. Would be nice to get rid of the CA though.

These shots are with this lens. Just can't say anything negative about it yet. Haven't printed any shots tho.

Hi GWP

Not too sure if you will be able to get the same deal in other Ted's shops. The ad said the sale only applies in Melbourne city store.
