I posted in this thread about 1.5 years ago, and apparently I've picked up a few more lenses. So, these are my favorite primes now. I guess I'd pick one out of each group depending on the situation. If I'm limited to 3, someone stays home.
  • Rokinon 8mm FE
  • DA 21 f3.2 / DA 35 f2.4
  • Auto Chinon 45 f2.8 / K 50 Macro f4 / DA 50 f1.8 / SuperTak 55 f1.8
  • Tamron 90 f2.8 / SuperTak 150 f4 / M 200 f4

My favorite camera and 3 prime kit. I've used it for years:

Pentax MX

K28 f/3.5
M50 f/1.4
Tamron 90 f/2.5 (52BB)

Tak 28mm
Tak 55mm
Tak 105mm

and if I could make it 4, the Tak 200mm because this in MHO is the perfect minimal set, period, and if I had to sell every other lens in my kit these are the primes I'd keep. That being said, no way would I ever do it. :P

The 3 primes that I actually have:

Sigma Ultra wide 24mm 2.8
Pentax FA 35mm f/2
Pentax FA 100mm 2.8

I know there is a big gap between 35 and 100. If 100 is too long I use the Pentax F 50mm 1.7

Everything else I use the 16-50, the 18-250 or the Sigma 70-200 2.8

Like those kits!

I'll add another, this is my "night/low light" K Series kit:

K28/2
K50/1.2
K85/1.8

With what I shoot, I could get away with this as my kit.

FA* 24
DA* 55
FA 135

Now to start saving...

Great kit for APS-C! I might personally change out the FA* 24 for DA 21 but otherwise it's a capable and versatile kit that brings home unique images.

These days I'm on FF so I use a 24mm, 85mm, and 200mm lens and I'm pretty happy with the results. I only feel like I have a hole in the 50mm range, and I'm looking for something special in that range.

The DA21 is definitely a fantastic lens and has a lot going for it, but I think I would rather have the DA15 instead as it's longer (physical dimensions), which gives me a little bit more to hold on to. But I would still have the kit I named as all of them would be usable if I decide to step up to FF.

I have a number of primes. I've got a FA 50 F1.4 (normal), a 50 F 2.8 Macro, a 40 mm Ltd., a 70 mm Ltd. and a 21 mm Ltd. They're all very good and very sharp.

Last evening I went to a vintage car show...outside...dark, foreboding clouds, etc. When I go to car shows, I usually take my 12-24 on my K-5 and one of my primes..usually the 21, 70 or 40 Limited...I rotate the primes.

Last night I decided to slap on my 50 normal...sharp, sharp, sharp and I gotta take it more often.
