DA limiteds: 21, 35 & 70.

Not much you can't do with that.

It has been shown the K28/3.5 resolves as high as 98 lpmm @ f/8 and in the high 80's at f/5.6 and f/11. The K30/2.8 resolves somewhat higher and the K35/3.5 resolves as high as 98 lpmm down to f/2.8 and up to f/11. There are numerous K and M lenses resolving in the very high 80's at their peak aperture. That doesn't even begin to address the FA35/2, FA*24/2.8, FA Limiteds and the FA50/2.8 Macro at 110 lpmm.

A Fred Miranda article and a similar post on Photo.net from 2007 refer to 60 lpmm as 'high resolution.'

I have no concerns about my collection of legacy and manual focus lenses' resolving power on modern high Mp sensors.

Many thanks for the most informative reply.
It has alleviated any doubts that i had in choosing to use legacy glass in preference to the sony zeiss fe lenses for the a7r.
I hope that this will encourage those who will buy the pentax ff camera to resurrect old lenses or even to buy a few to have in their bag.

15, 35, 300 is ideal for me. Don't have a three hundred prime - that one's a wish-list item.

My Best Three

I could probably swing it lots of filters and close up lens would be needed lol but here is my list

Three Primes I could use for Eternity

Pentax SMC M 50mm f//1.7
Asahi Pentax Auto Takumar 35mm f/3.5
Takumar Bayonet 135mm f/2.5

I could probably survive about 6 months

Of what I have...

SMC DA 15 limited f4
SMC DA 40 limited f2.8
F 100 macro f2.8
HD DA 1.4x TC (56 f4, 140 f4 effective)

Dreaming:
DA 15 f4
FA 31 f1.8
DFA 100 F2.8
1.4 TC
(43 f2.4, 140 f4)

Honestly after thinking about it more. I'd go with what I carry today when I carry a light prime kit:

SMC DA 15 f/4
SMC DA 40 f/2.8 (2.66x)
HD DA 70 f/2.4 (1.75x)

Plus these optional accessories:
HD DA 1.4x TC (sometimes - typically only to make a 98mm f/3.5 for a little more reach or with the raynox for more magnification)
Raynox 250 (used with the 70 for "macro" work)

I would also think about adding the 35 Macro and dropping the 40 and the Raynox long term if push came to shove That would give me:

15 f/4
35 f/2.8 (49 f/4)
70 f/2.4 (98 f/3.5)

Plus Macro with either 35mm base or 49mm base. Not shabby. The loss in this one is the compact DA 40 which is a sweet little lens but I think it would work out.

Aw heck now I want a DA 35 Macro. LBA sucks!

The 100 WR will give you a 150mm equivalent FOV zoom, but beware - without a limiter, the focus hunts a lot and you will want the quickshift feature. This basically means deploying the hood from its reverse position (where it obstructs access to the MF ring) to the forward, which makes it a substantially longer lens while in action. If you want short, light, unobtrusive and quick of handling, it probably isn't for you. On the other hand, if you go FF at any stage, it's ready to go.

Primes only. 50-135 is great and on my list of awesome lenses. But it doesn't fit the question.

What is this 'had to' you speak of?

I could take the 3 amigos around the world and be content.

I only own one zoom that I use on occasion but I shoot with an all prime line up for the most part. Admittedly I have considered getting a zoom though if for nothing else to be able to react to scenes on the street faster.

Aside from the 3 amigos I have a manual 50 and a F50. I also have the 21 and 15, but as of now I don't use any of the other lenses that much.
