I don't have a 20-40, but from all of the reviews I've read, and from all of the images from it I've looked at I would say that its build quality/physical characteristics qualify it as a "Ltd". It's IQ qualifies it as "JAZ" (Just Another Zoom).
Dice and others might disagree. See the DA Limited Zoom Lens Club thread. I only have Limited primes, but find that thread's posted images very intriguing.

So if you ignore the 31 winner because it is too expensive, the 3 lenses tied for second place are the perfect answer to the other thread! DA15, DA35 macro, and FA77.
Well played! That's a great 3 lens kit indeed, hard to beat for APS-C.

+1 to that

I still can't quite get over how compact and solid it is given what it's capable of.

so, for those with the 20-40 as well as other ltd's,
does the zoom have the starbursts of the 15, the bokeh of the 31 and 43, and the "charm" that is characteristic of all the ltd's?
Starbursts aren't its strong suit. The aperture blades are very rounded, and there's 9 of them. As for the rest, the 20-40mm has mostly replaced my 21mm, 31mm and 43mm lenses in common usage, except for rare cases when I need a larger aperture or less size/weight. The PF review of the lens does not agree with most users' experiences so far.

"FA 31"

Never had a Limited (that will be changing this summer) this is as normal a focal length as it gets. And for me the most useful.

Which one would it be?

Note, I said one Limited, Not one Lens. Is there a limited that you want, or have, that does something that NO other lens can do?
There is no such lens that No other lens can match...

having said that, it would be FA31 if you have to chose only one limited, a great walk-around lens.

Okay I'll just say this. If any of you do buy a 31 Ltd I'd advise you to:

1. Wait for the refreshed HD revision to be issued as that will drive down the price of the old model anyway and;

2. Get it from a store with a good returns policy.

I'm just thinking of you folks here.

Parry - please don't ruin another thread. The FA31 is by far the most voted lens so far. So obviously there's some very good copies out there, and people like them, unlike you.
I ask you to stop your bashing or I'll have to contact the mods. A lot of us have seen what you are trying to do, and how you like to take over entire conversations to post repeat bashings ad nauseum.

alright,
i'm not looking to bash one lens or another, or discuss faults or issues of particular lens's.

my original question was just to inspire some debate on which LTD lens people just think is indispensable to them.
