smc 300/4 (77mm) and CPL 67mm on APS-C?

I was wondering is 67mm CPL filter gonna make vignetting effect on SMC 300/4, which has 77mm diameter, if we count that I'm using k-5 ii (aps-c)? I'm thinking about step-down ring.

Thanks!

I had that lens but never tried filters as I already needed to stopdown f/11 to get good results on K-5. I donīt think it will vignette with the step down ring. You are just covering 5mm of the radius so it should be ok.

It's worth a shot. You can get a ring for $5.

I would not expect it to vignette I have used a 72mm filter on a 70-200mm 77mm front element. No issue there. Haven't tried it on my DA300. I can try it later and see if there's an issue with 72mm filters. At least gives you a starting guess.

Your lens will not give more vignetting, but will become a SMC 300/4.5.

depending on the polarization angle, the CPL filter can take up to 1.5 stops of light. I think it will take half a stop at any angle. So Iīd say something like f/5.6. Given the weight a tripod collar and tripod or monod are almost a must... Thatīs why I sold mine.

Just a little. I set up my K-7 and K300/4 on a tripod, focused to infinity, f4, and took three shots of a solid blue sky. The first shot was with nothing on the lens, hood retracted. The second was with a 77-72 and a 72-67 stepdown ring, no filter, no hood. The third was with those stepdown rings stuck into the end of the hood and the hood extended fully. In Lightroom, I looked at one corner of the shots for the R, G and B percentages.
1: R 65.9, G 69.3, B 95.9
2: R 62.6, G 65.6, B 94.1
3: R 60.0, G 62.9, B 92.7
You don't really see darkened corners. I thought I'd see something like that. The DA* 300/4 has the same filter size.

The aperture is 300/67 = rounded 4.5, no transmission blocking filter will change that.
