Takumar to EOS

I have a friend who has a couple of lenses for a Spotmatic 2 from the 70's. He believes one of them is this Takumar 50mm 1:2 macro lens:
S-M-C/Super Macro-Takumar 50mm F4 Reviews - M42 Screwmount Normal Primes - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

The lens he has reads "Macro-Takumar 1:4/50 Asahi Opt.Co.Japan".

Would he just need to buy this adapter to mate the lens to his Rebel, or is there more involved?
Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter, Black M42 (42mm x 1 thread mount) Lens to Canon EOS DSLR Adapter, for Canon EOS 1D, 1DS, Mark II, III, IV, 5D, Mark II, 7D, 40D, 50D, 60D, 70D, Digital Rebel T2i, T3, T3i, T4i, T5i, SL1, C300, C500: Amazon.ca: Electronics

I can't help him, I don't know anything about Takumar lenses or Canon cameras.

That adapter will work, though a "chipped" model may be better in that it would allow focus confirmation. The lens should work fine on a cropped-sensor EOS. The model linked below has both the focus confirmation chip and the aperture-pin flange useful for lenses lacking the A/M switch.
