Guess what phenomenal macro lens this is

.

I've recently posted some shots take with the incredible Vivitar S1 105 macro + K20D
to show how the K20D sensor handles extremely high resolution 1-1 shots at high (800-3200) ISO.

Here are some shots with the ISO 'stopped down' to a more traditional 200 & 400, and taken
with a different lens. None of these are 1-1 macro, simply cropped quite a bit to look that way.

Do you think the sensor can handle this level of cropping OK?

Now for the silly quiz - this wasn't the viv S1 105 - what lens would you say it could be?

Hint - it's not in my sig, Fedex just brought it to me today. Hint #2: It didn't break the bank.

It's the Phoenix 100mm f/2.5 Macro with 1:1 adapter?

A Raynox dioper attachment?

Cheers!

Diopter? Nope... No diopters or 1-1 adapters of any kind were used - this is the mystery
super-macro lens's native magnification cropped to 1-1 or a bit greater. It's an exercise
in using the K20D's resolution/cropping capability to 'create' quality macro...

Phoenix 100? No, it's a new lens, and AF.

Tamron 90 macro? No, & it cost significantly less.

Hint #3: This lens has been discussed a bit in the forums lately.

No, (although I'd love to have one of those.) See commentary above, it's
1) new, and 2) AF.

No, see hint #1, "it's not in my sig". (Plus, it's AF and new.)

Hint #4: what do ivoire, boussh, bramela, and chako all have in common?

My first quess would have been the FA50 but it's in your sig. So that's out. I'd say the 17-70 Sigma?

Btw the sensor can handle a fake macro very well. I wonder what one of those would look like at 8x10

BINGO!

I see Gus also guessed it above, but I missed his post in there, sorry Gus.

Yeah. there ya go. You don't need a $500 or $1000 macro lens anymore when
you have the K20D - a very nice but $130-shipped Tamron 70-300 LD Di "macro"
will do nicely!

Actually, I'm sure it does nicely on the K10D also, but the K20D gives you more
clean cropping, so it becomes almost indistinguishable from a real 1-1 macro lens -
as some of the guesses above suggest!
