pentax-f 35-70mm smc lens

i am about to buy a k10d from a local guy off craigslist in nyc. he has the pentax-f 35-70mm lens with it. i believe this to be a rather weak lens. i would have to upgrade to a digital lens perhaps. any feedback about this? he's selling for 600.00 but the body alone is online for cheaper as we all know. is this lens alright??

I don't own the lens but I don't see what would make it 'weak'. what exactly do you mean? is it a preferred lens among the F series? probably not. but if you don't need the wider angles that the normal 18-55 DA kit lens offers I don't see why this lens wouldn't do just fine. it has the 'A' setting, auto focus, its a FF (full frame) lens, rugged high quality (though mostly plastic) build, standard 49mm filter thread (so buying a filter would be cheaper), its widest aperture settings go from 3.5-4.5 as opposed to the 3.5-5.6 of the kit lens so this lens is more than one full stop faster.

unless their is something about this lens I don't know it doesn't look 'weak' to me.

you cant cant go wrong with the K10 either way. as for the 18-55 DA its certainly a good lens for what it is and you will find that most people here who got this lens with their cameras still have and use it. it is a highly recommended lens. good luck and happy shooting. welcome to the forums by the way.

I have the F 35-70mm. It's my favorite walk around lens. It is certainly not very wide, so it might not be good for interior shots or landscapes. But it is still a nice lens, and the macro function is also a good addition if you like shots of flowers. Images are sharp and both color and boken are very good.

I just picked this lens up last week to replace the A version (they're pretty much the same lens sans the autofocus). I think it's a very good lens. It's my favorite walkaround since it covers a decent range and it's easy to carry because of its small size.
Here's a "macro" shot taken with it yesterday:

A few more taken in the city last week:

Thanks. Not the best shots because I haven't had it for long, but I expect this lens to get a lot of use.....it's definitely a keeper for now.
