I use a collapsible rubber hood. I find it suits my needs. It allows me to change filters without removing the hood.

There is an OEM hood, but it's also a collapsible rubber one.

I only use rubber hoods on smaller lenses like these. Compact when collapsed, and can be purchased inexpensively (especially in a used camera store).

Amazon has a zykkor 49mm metal hood. They appear under different names. May even be similar to what you found on eBay. I prefer this over a rubber hood - you can use a generic 55mm (I believe) lens cap that snaps right on the hood itself.

It depends.

I use a long Chinese hood with my K5.
I use the shorter stock Pentax hood with film.

I use a matin hood. It is reversible, allow easy storage in my camera bag. Also in the reversed position it protects against bumps.

This is it:

I tend to use metal takumar lens hoods--my 50mm f1.7 M does nicely with 200mm f5.6 takumar hood (it also has another designation--maybe it was 135mm f3.5). This is very effective for a circular hood and provides good physical protection.
