Well I didn't see anything 300 on your lens lineup. So the story is, it was the missing piece in your setup.

Seriously, with the lens lineup you have, you can settle down and just take pictures for a long time without having any LBA.

Nice. I was looking at that lens too on ebay but I already have a 300mm albeit manual focus. Post some pictures on the forum after you get the lens. I'd like to see how sharp they are.....

Slip? That's no slip. That's seems like a normal, rational purchase to me. Now, an FA* 250-600 might be a slip. Just think about those poor fellows in Canikon land when LBA strikes!

What's the problem? You need that lens. It's one of my most important primes. And you picked the best one (the F*).

You could possibly part with a lens amongst the 15, 21, 31, and 40, but that's it.

You have a complete looking kit now. Anything beyond the F*300 gets prohibitively expensive, or heavy, or has degraded IQ, or some combination of these. So you won't continue to buy lenses longer than 300mm - not someone with the standards you have (I can tell from your lineup). You'll stop here.

Unless you have some special need, I agree. As long as you like your 17-50 and 70-200, you're all set now. Perhaps you'll get TCBA for the HD 1.4x TC, however! But don't even bother with any other TCs - they're generally not worth the trouble. The F 1.7x AFA is pretty good, but I still don't use it much. OTOH, I use the F*300 a lot. You won't think it's a bad purchase once you have it, and you might even find you prefer to have it plus the FA77 over the 70-200!

Just show her how nice and thin it makes women's faces look, and she'll have no problem with it! Your 70-200 really can't make photos that look as nice as the F*300 does. You'll see.

So many words of support........ what a great forum! Thankyou so much.

It was dispatched today so hopefully I can post some photos later next week..... will definitely be the end of my lens buying habits for some time. Maybe just the 1.4 TC later in the year..........

Agree with everything you said......except she won't care about thin.......does it reduce wrinkles though?

It's just over a $1000 so import duty could be a bummer!

Very funny! But sort of true......probally for a lot of us at some stage!

Any way...... life is great today........lens was delivered this morning and all in the world is good!

It's like new...... and is an amazing lens. First impresions are that it sits atop the user experience of the FA31 & 77 (comact, tactile, great IQ....special) . I sought of bought it blind as i haven't seen or held a F or FA 300...... but I wanted a compact 300 that had top IQ.......anyway..... will post some images when I get to take some........ Icing on the cake is that it went straight through customs!
