Quality problems w/DA18-250 or 12-24?

Reading about all of the problems with the new DA 16-50 lenses, I am now wondering about the lenses I have ordered which are the 18-250 and 12-24 Pentaxes. Have there been problems reported with them also? I already have the 18-250 but the K20D body hasn't arrived yet so I can't test it.

John -

I have the Tamron version of the 18-250. This is a very good lens for the price. It is a little soft at the long end and can be difficult to hand hold (then again I am not as steady as I once was ha-ha) - for an all purpose zoom I have no complaints and when you can only take one lens this is my choice. I don't see any issues on the wide end or very little vignetting. The colors and sharpness are well within my acceptable parameters.

I also have the DA 12-24. This is a great lens. There can be some distortion at 12mm. The only other issue I have is the AF is slow. It tends to hunt for reasons that are beyond me. As I use it mostly for landscape shots not much of an issue as usually the landscape is patient and it waits for me IQ I find very very good. I would be curios if the AF issue is fixed on the K20D

Have fun; don't think you will be disappointed with either lens.

John, like Dave above, I have the Tamron version of the 18-250, as well as the DA12-24. I am not aware of any problems reported with either. the 18-250 is a wonderful travelling lens, although I wish it was faster at the long end (would be much more expensive and heavy). The 12-24 is an amazing performer on the K20D. I have not noticed a focusing issue on the K20D. It is one of my favorite lens (I'm a wide-angle shooter). They are both very well reviewed by reputable mags and e-zines.

John,

I have the DA*16-50 and DA* 50-135 lenses and a K20D. The only problems I have had are adjusting to the camera differences from the ist* DL and the K20D. I have used the lenses on both camera's with out any issues for the last couple of weeks. I'd say go for it.

I have the Pentax 18-250, and it is a wonderful walk around lens... actually, I use it for my studio shoots. It is soft at the long and wide ends, especially wide open, but stopped down, it is pretty good. Though since I work with lights, I stop it down to f8-16, thus the sharpness...

Here's a sample shot at 1/80, f/16 at 130mm...
