DA 50, No exif data?

I've noticed that the lens name never shows up in exif data. Everything else shows up (focal length, aperture, etc etc) Just the lens name doesn't show up. Is this common with this lens?

I've tried looking at it in file properties (windows), LR, Photoshop, and when I upload pictures to flickr. No lens data, ever. My copy has been like this since new.

It's most likely the camera that is older than the lens.
If the lens did not exist when the firmware in camera was made, the camera has no way of identifying the lens.

I have the same problem with my Sigma 17-70/2.8-4 | C. There is a code in the EXIF, "Unknown (8 30)", but neither the camera nor my copy of Lightroom (v3.6) has a lens name to match the code.

I feel a little dumb. I read the EXIF using an older version of ExifTool. When I updated, the lens was properly identified as "Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro HSM Contemporary". The image file was from a K10D (old camera) image. I think it is safe to assume that the camera body has little to do with the lens ID in the displayed EXIF (at least for non-Pentax lenses) and that this text is added at runtime by whatever tool is interpreting the code value ("8 30", in this case). I suspect that when I update my copy of Lightroom sometime next week, it will properly identify there as well.

Yeah, make sure your camera firmware is the latest one, and the software has the latest updates.
Beyond that, you might want to look at the lens and camera mount to make sure its nice and clean. And when mounting the lens, make sure it "clicks" into place just right

It clicks into place, everything else works, just no lens name in the exif data. I've noticed several posts on the flickr group dedicated to this lens that don't have the lens data either, usually only people using the K-5 or K-3 show the lens name. Most of the other posters use either a K-30 or K-50 and don't show the lens name. Sort of odd considering they are all newer cameras. I have the latest software and firmware updates on my K200D

Which pin transmits the data to the camera? They all look clean on the lens and I know it's not a fault with the camera body because all of my other lenses show the name in the exif.

It's not the lens or the camera. It's the software. The DA 50 is a relatively new lens and the EXIF library rarely gets updated. It took several years for Aperture to recognize my DA L lenses. Flickr takes forever to update their EXIF data. They still don't recognize the K-3, K-50, K-500, or any of the Q's.

I've actually seen a K-3 with a DA50 on flickr and both the lens and camera were identified in the exif data:

But it's not recognized by the camera finder.

This photo was taken with a DA L 55-300 and a K-x. It was uploaded to Flickr with Aperture 3.1.3. The 55-300 is not recognized.

This photo was taken with the same camera and lens, but was uploaded with Aperture 3.2.3. The 55-300 is now recognized...
