52mm Hood doesn't fit 18-55mm DA L

I just got a SMC Pentax-DA L 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL WR kit lens with my K-50.
It's not supplied with a hood, but I thought "No matter, I have an 18-55mm DA lens with a PH-RBA 52mm hood, I'll use that"
Nup - doesn't fit.. What a surprise! And how silly!

So, it there a particular Hood that will fit the SMC Pentax-DA L 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL WR?
Suggestions please

Very interesting. I had exactly the same problem, ordered hood from Keh and it did not fit my 18-55 WR but apparently does fit the earlier kit lenses. Problem is the hoods for the earlier lenses have four male flanges to match with similar surfaces on the AL 18-55, but the WR lenses and hoods have only two such flanges, so you have to order the specific part number/hood for the WR version of the lens. I finally found a screw-in type hood for my WR, not the ideal solution, and I am still looking for the proper hood. Good luck to you with the same problem.

The DA L 18-55 WR uses the PH-RBC 52 hood, the same as the DA 18-55 WR.

The 18-55 WR uses the PH-RBC hood, not the PH-RBA. No idea why it changed...

Yup. Check ebay for cheapo Chinese knockoffs. They go for around 6-8 bucks shipped

Best to start you're own thread rather than hijack this one with a totally unrelated question

Best to check here:
Pentax DA Zoom Lenses - Reviews and Specifications - SLR and Interchangeable Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database
It usually says what filter sizes or hood type (in case its bayonet) fits.

And yes its quite confusing that the filter size and hood vary

I use the original 2004 SMC Pentax -DA 1:3.5 ~5.6 18~55 AL with the PH-RBA 52mm hood and it is a useful lens but has a bit of a flare problem when getting around to close angles to the sun.
Late afternoon facing west in our garden is a common photo I take here at parties etc.

here is a comparison I made last year against the old SMC Pentax -M 1:2 50mm also with a Pentax hood.
(early morning, the hood is just shading the lens, ..posted before)

The common internet wisdom (!?) is that modern lenses are more flare resistant due to better coating tech, but these shots show the opposite.

I wonder if the newer hood is more effective and I would be interested to know if the newer 18 ~ 55 s versions with their hood are better in the sun than my original versions.

Regards !

That would be the PH-RBC 49. The hood names are suffixed with the filter diameter. Go figure.

The change was introduced with the DA 18-55 WR, after the DA 18-55 and DA 18-55ii models. I seem to recall the WR and non-WR outer diameter is close or identical, just the number of flanges is different, which I agree is a little frustrating. But that doesn't matter -- Pentax could have justified the different hood design, claiming (true or not) that the improved sealing necessitated a different barrel design, I'm guessing that when the DA-L WR was introduced, they just lifted existing parts off the DA WR.
