Close Focus Test - Pentax K 28 f2.0 vs Sigma 30 f1.4

Had a quick opportunity to test two of my favorite lens to slug it out against each other on their close focus capability. I had the Sigma for about two years now and the Pentax for just a few months. I am sharing these as to help out others who like this focal lengths or wanting to have this lens in their possession. This are by no means a test taken by a pro. I'm just a hobbyist who happen to have both lenses and would like to share what I have tested. Shots were taken with a tripod w/ same aperture, speed and at ISO 100 on a K5ii body. All shots taken w/ JPEG SOC.

At f2.0, 1/400 , ISO 100:

Not bad as the Pentax is taken at full wide open. But at 100% view the Sigma has an edge since it already had been stepped down to a degree.

At f5.6, 1/40, ISO 100:

Pentax Hollywood now shows what it can do.

It seems that the Sigma is a bit back focus so I included a photo taken at 1/60 with the Sigma with a bit of adjustment on the levels.

A review on how I use the lens show that I particularly use the Pentax at f2.8-5.6 and the Sigma at f2.0-3.5.

Very nice comparisons - I would only include the shot of lenses itself - just for the completeness of it
The sharpness wise Both lenses are very good - of course Sigma stopped down at f2.0 has to have a bit of an edge . What surprises me most is the fact that Sigma is actually having a very nice - better than Pentax to my taste ! - bokeh - with very smooth transitions at f2.0 and rounder highlights at f5.6.

thanks for sharing !

The Sigma looks like it would be better at flowers and such. I think its bokeh is more pleasing. YMMV.

Most of the difference to my eyes seems to be in the number of aperture blades, with the Sigma the winner for most pleasing overall image.

I also have to mention that the Pentax has a disadvantage here. The lens is in mint condition - physically outside but at further investigation, the rear element suffered a previous fungus infection from its last owner that made a scar on its lens coating. The Sigma was brought new. So, I may not have a very good copy of the Hollywood. But I got some good shots from the Pentax and colors are still great but not as great as the FA lenses.

Looks like the bokeh in certain situations can be really pleasant indeed - nice shot !
