What I've done to raise $$$ for lenses...

...sell my Cuisinart tabletop ice cream maker, of course! I'm not using it, so why not sell it and put the money toward lenses, which I will use. It's a hard-to-find color (hot pink), so when the auction comes down to the wire tomorrow evening, I'm hoping a huge bidding war will break out--last I checked, I had one bid of $ .99 and 9 people watching it.

Keep your fingers crossed that a bidding war will break out and I'll be able to get some serious cash for this ice cream maker.

Eating too much ice cream makes you fat--lenses don't. They just make your wallet and bank account skinny.

Heather (who will happily buy herself ice cream and new lenses)

I sold a camcorder, my HF Ham radio, some antique coins, and racked up a credit card!

I've bought and sold so much different photographic equipment in the last 20 months that I can't tell if I'm ahead or behind.

I hope I'm done for a while.

A few years ago, my wife and I started using the Starwood Preferred car from Amex for everything we could (groceries, gas, insurance) instead of cash. We paid our balance off every month and were saving the "points" for a trip (with the Starwood Points, you can get free rooms at Starwood resorts (Sheraton, Westin, etc) when we split up last year, we split the points up (I was actually a little surprised they did this since they were all in my ex's name) When I was camera shopping towards the end of 2008, I was happy to realize I could trade the points in for Amazon credit. I may not be going on any free vacations soon, but i was able to get my k10d for free, and most of my 35-135 DA* with the credit.

You haven't got the FA31 yet Why not sell off the FA35, and get a FA31?

Then you need to let go off the FA50 in favor of the DA*55, the kit II for DA1770/4, the Tamron 90Di for VL 125/2.5, and I can see you need something longer than 90mm, and probably a couple more DA**... you still got a long way to go

I represent that remark!! I figure I've spent $300-400 of my own money "renting" gear from Ebay and a few other places. But it was worth the experience to et the right stuff. But like you, Ed, I'm about done. The bag is right where I'd like it and the few items on the wish list are not pressing and can wait.

Good luck on the Ice cream machine Heather.

I started with - too many 50's - I still have too many 50's.
I added too many bodies and other lenses.
I sold almost everything.
I bought a K10D and 2 FA's.

What non-Pentax stuff I've [SOLD] since February to build up the kitty:
  • 27 70's & 80's Colorado Narrow Gauge Railroad history/pictorial books
  • a 1983 R.L. Winston TMF WT 8/2 4wt. fly fishing rod
  • 5 80's & 90's vintage fly fishing reels
  • numerous other fly fishing & fly tieing artifacts
  • 10 or so 40's - 90's Boy Scout knives
  • 10 or so Gil Hibben throwing knives
  • 15 or so Schrade Rigging knives
  • a Cisco Router
  • a 3lb. Coffee Can full of silver pocket change
  • the tax rebate (portion I get, whenever it comes)
  • $21 a week for every week I don't smoke ($147, plus $21 more tonight)
I'm not break-even yet - I kept a spreadsheet back to 2003.

What is on my roadmap:
  • K10D bits
  • all 3 FA Limited lenses (31, 43, 77)
</eBay>

Cold Turkey. I have nothing in the Watching list; nothing in the Bidding list and nothing in the Won list.

What I might still do:
  • Sell my K-series bodies and lenses - but I'm not there yet.

Heck, that alone will add up FAST!

Do you realize that not smoking for 1 year = price of a Bigma! $21x52 weeks = $1092 If that alone isn't a good enough incentive to quit smoking I don't know what is!

Yeah, I kinda figured that out - 100 weeks = all 3 Limiteds, shipped - that's a long time to wait. I'll probably put off the 31 until the second year.

No Smoking, No eBay.

Frank,

It's not "if" I plan to get an FA 31 but "when".

That's not for a while. I have to use what I have and find out if I have enough talent to justify anything else.

Yep, I've "rented" some of that equipment as well.

Good luck Heather, let us know how you make out. I've also got an icecream maker that has never been out of the box. Here's to bidding wars!
