Why have you sold your FA31?

Would love to get the perspective - Why have you sold your FA31?

It's just not quite wide enough on APS-C for my personal taste

The FA 31's rendering and resolution is (my copies) about the same as the FA 35, with the FA 31 being 3 times more expensive. The only difference (other than build quality) was the FA 31 had better bokeh in most situations.

Just wasn't using it that much on APS-C. The DA35 Macro is smaller, lighter and f/2.8 is fast enough for my needs.

On a full-frame camera, it would be a different story, I'm sure.

Maybe I will regret but decided to let it go. The FL is perfect for APS-C but I decided to go FF and I feel it's a bit wide on FF (I rarely use by Sigma 19mm for NEX).

Funny, I never considered the FA31 exactly because it gives a redundant focal length in APS-C. On the contrary, IŽd really like it on FF

Quite simply the Focal Length didn't suit me (on APS-C) - the angle of view it gave me was rarely what I was looking for, I find 20 - 24 or 35 to be my preferences. I feel the same about 28mm too

+1

Although I'm now finding that the DA 20-40 Ltd makes these concerns about specific focal lengths irrelevant!

So you are changing systems? Or going all out for film?

Actually, already on Sony NEX from over a year now, apart from film. I heard K-3 has improved tremendously in AF department but unfortunately no major retails chains in India keeps Pentax on display that I can try. So letting some of my Pentax stuff go which I will not be using.

I have not sold it. But I agree, the FA31 on APS-C is just odd and not something I use a lot. However, I do use it on my LX and MX a lot, and I've been doing more and more video and I love the 31 for video purposes, especially the focus ring. So I'll keep it for that. But I never liked it for stills on my K5/K3.

Funny that people don't like the focal length when it seems like most folks like the 50mm focal length on full frame. It is the 40-ish focal length that I don't really like on APS-C.

Biggest weakness of the FA 31 is purple fringing and it can glow in the wrong situation.

Love 50mm on both. hate 30-35 on both. can't explain it. But I love my 43!

Agree, 30-35 is my fav FL on APS-C and 50 on FF.
