Small insect inside my lens!

As I swapped lenses today and noticed that I have a hitch hiker inside my DA*50-135.

Must have crawled into the lens from the rear side, although I always put the rear cap on immediately when swapping lenses... Very strange. Looks kind of like a tick, but a little too small and is white. This was the best pic I could take in our poorly lit apartment, but I think it will do the trick.

Any thoughts? Probably will just have to live with it until it dies, then... well, it'll probably be stuck in there for a very long time as service is quite expensive. Especially if it doesn't show up in any photos.

Weather resistant, dust resistant, but not bug resistant?? I thought the * lenses would be better than that.

You're going to get the best macro photos ever!

Seriously, as long as it stays toward the front of the lens you'll never see it in your photos. You have a special and unique DA*50-135!

Well, if it's living there then it must have food there. So it may not be the only thing crawling around inside your lens.

You should send the pic to Pentax and tell them you're disappointed that your lens resists water ingress but not bug ingress.

I have what appears to be a member of the same family in my 43mm Limited. Though this one is deceased.

I tried to induce some movement with gentle vacuuming, but to no avail.

Mine is also quite forward, and I don't believe it has any effect on the photos.

That's almost certainly a pseudoscorpion. They are typically predators of small soil dwelling animals.

Bizarre that it got into a DA* lens for sure.

The problem will be it being fungus food, when it dies.
I had a small baby spider die inside my telescope, sure enough, small filaments started to extend from the carcass.

I'm impressed! That bug must have some special survival gene to know how to burrow into a lens like that.

Hopefully it will fall off the lens element when it dies and then you can shake/vacuum it out?

Hey everyone... I haven't seen any signs of it there today. Hoping he crawled out during the night when I left the rear lens cap off.

I would hate to have fungus food in my favorite lens!

As for how he got there, I do a lot of landscape work and often have my camera with me in the garden or while on farms. Still, I try to put the rear cap on as fast as possible during lens changes... either way, heres to hoping that it escaped with its life into our apartment rather than curling up to die somewhere in the lens.

Although, I am intrigued by the suggestion to gently use the vacuum on the lens. I have seen a few threads round the internet about it, but haven't had the courage to try myself... though I might give it a try if I see the little guy again!

edit- Nope, still there. He's back on the front element again.
