Picked up an ancient set at an estate sale for $15 thinking they would be OK to toss in the car under the seat. They are the sharpest binos I own by far and I have some fairly expensive ones.

That's very interesting, I also have a few older Pentax Bino's, can't seem to find out much about them on the net. Would nice to have them listed under a header for them. Is there anyone else that collects Bino's. Will post more info about the tomorrow, maybe someone can tell me more about them.

The product page still lists these:

PENTAX Optics - What to look for in binoculars

"With the 7-layer PENTAX smc coating"

but I wonder if they'll switch to HD coating like they're doing for photographic lenses.

Might be worth a bino section under Pentax Accessory Reviews?

You remind me, I have a set of 7 x 50 model 563. I was given them for my 21st. I have hardly used them but should. I never found them easy to hold steady.
