Sigma 15mm vs Zenitar vs Pentax 10-17mm

I keep running into this Cameta Auction: Sigma 15mm and wondered if anyone here has any experiences with that lens.
I already have the Pentax 10-17mm and so I was hoping to find out how this Sigma lens would compare to the Pentax at the 15mm setting. I never owned the Zenitar lens, which seems real popular among Pentaxians, so a comparison by those who own both wouldn't hurt either. Any takers?

The 10-17 is very good, and if you only shoot digital, it would be much better than the Sigma. Otherwise, grab the Sigma or the Pentax 17-28 since they both fit full-frame.

Indeed, the 10~17 zoom is a terrific lens. I find that at the longer fl's it can give the look of a normal extreme WA lens if there are no telephone poles at the edges of the field. It is very contrasty and sharp. A joy to use!

Yes the 10 -17mm is a great lens, but theoretically a prime has to be sharper at the same f stop and focal length. It has been like this in every lens test I have ever done in the past. (sub par lenses or weird off brands of course not included).

Hi Redhawk

I used to own sigma 15mm on canon mount body. It is not on the same par with canon 15 FE (colour rendition or sharpness) but it is a hell a lot cheaper though. It is a lens I take it out for some casual purposes: clubbing, dinner, bowling etc. Nice handy to carry etc

It is well built and it is quite usable wide open. The only problem I have with this lens is its much reduced "fish" field on APC camera. It does not look distorted enough...

I had been looking for opportunity to get a FE 10-17 for my pentax set up but never had the chance to because of my constant pursuit of other lenses...

I can tell all your lenses are mainly primes. Sigma 15 FE is in the similar price range to pentax 10-17 but I doubt the modern FE lenses from pentax has been zoom lately...

I would not mind resolution too much since FE is about that kind of fish effect

Thank you. I actually have the 8mm Peleng lens for extreme situations. I am thinking hard about buying the 15mm now......

BTW: Being a full frame lens i assume it has an aperture ring? It is a little hard to see in the auction picture.

How is the Peleng over digital? It goes full frame or there is still some black corners?

The black areas are somewhat half in between a circle and a filled frame.

If you think about it too long, Cameta might raise the price the way they did with the Sigma 24-135.

I was thinking the same thing. I bought the SIGMA 15-30mm from them once. It was 249 Dollars. Then they went to 299 and now the lens can be found between 329 and 469 on Ebay.

I did buy it yesterday evening
