It's a top, small lens - important to me as a hiker.

It's sharp in the middle, and if it's softer away from it, it's just softening the bokeh, right?

Yes, thatīs what I meant. But I also put it humorously because i understand that no place is perfect and there is bad and good everywhere.

100% agree. Sometimes this gets annoying when I want to frame a landscape at 200mm. But the solution would be way too heavy / big / expensive, Iīll stick to smaller prints

I took this photo today (Autumn is here). I think Itīs a good example of center vs corner sharpness. I used f/11 at 300mm and 25m away so DoF is about 3 meters. 2 Flashes and ISO1600 to avoid movement blur.

Fantastic example, Carrrlangas - much more scenic than a brick wall!

MT50 testing showed that at 300mm there's not a lot you can do for border sharpness, but you can improve the centre by going to F8 and even F11.

(Best results, for anyone interested, were all the way back at 55mm/f8).
