Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM

Just e-mailed Sigma and the CR said that last she checked, the lens was on schedule for the market sometime in June. She wouldn't give me an exact date.

Nope, sigma has HSM, no Tamron for me.

JUNE - bugger, wish they'd hurry up!

I am looking forward to see both offers really.
And see a comparison ... so far though the Tamron does look the goods.

The earlier versions of the Sigma looks pretty decent as well (Javier posted a few photos in the Teleconverter thread and they were nice and sharp with great colours.

Tamron is nicely priced though (due to lack of SDM though).

I think it'll come down to price. If the premium over the Tamron isn't too much, I will likely go for the Sigma for two reasons:

1) Available earlier (June vs. August)
2) HSM

For me it comes down to IQ. The price difference would be low. HSM is great but the earlier Sigma AF 70-200mm f/2.8 EX APO HSM DG was way to soft and had high CA at 200mm end wide open (that was the issue with the Canon mount anyway).
Maybe the Pentax mount is better somehow (though I dough it)
So I'll wait for the Tamron to compare both.

Sigma might be the winner. emailed tamron customer service on the release date of the 70-200mm for Pentax and their reply was:

"Unfortunately at this time we do not have a release date from Japan. I expect it within the next few months but that is only a estimate.

Tamron USA"

If they read this forum, perhaps that will change???
