penta 16-50mm lens alternative

hi all ..new member here...i just purchased a 50-135mm 2.8 pentax lens and will have it next week ..cant wait ..i was going to order the 16-50 2.8 but after reading alot of bad reviews does anyone have any ideas for an alternantive purchace from sigma or another company that would be just as good as far as sharpness...i own a 70mm da 2.4 lens and love it for portraits ..it makes my kit lens 18-55 and the 50-200 look like crap ...thats why i have been upgrading to new better lens....i just dont want to spend all the money on the 16-50 and get a bad one ...im hoping my 50-135 will be as good as everyone says it is
thanks for all your time glad to be here.

vincent

welcome to the forum.
the Sigma 17-70 (2.8-4.5?) comes well recommended as well as the Pentax 16-45 4.0 if you need wider coverage but slower. There's a Tamron 17-50 2.8 out, but there have been some reports of poor Qualtiy Control. Sigma also has a 18-50 2.8 , but i hear very positive remarks and then some really negative remarks. Pentax will also be releasing a 17-70 4.0 soon

You might also consider the 16-45 f/4.0 lens from Pentax. People seem to like it as well.

I've tried the Sigma 17 - 70 and have been very impressed with it as well.
And if memory serves me correctly it isn't even all that expensive

maybe purchase the lens somewhere you can test it before you buy
of course this precludes you from any deals online which are probably much cheaper

Personally, I'd try for the 16-50 then. I don't think the actual failure rate is as high as it seems
in this forum - people tend to come here to post about the problems, and that makes it seem
worse than it actually is. If you really want it, order one, test it, and if it's a lemon, repeat. I got
a great one on my third try, and I'm very happy I put forth the effort. Most people get a good
one on the first try, believe it or not.

Here's what to expect from a good one:

Give DA* 16-50 a chance

I think you will love SDM and build quality which come with DA* 50-135, so give 16-50 a chance.

Can't you cancel that order? I had one of the Sigmas. It's a very good lens but my replacement DA16-45 f4 is better and a good copy of the DA*16-50 is clearly superior.

Do we have any alternative to 16-50 with dust-resistant construction??
