Some 'Lovin' for the Pentax F* 300

After recently acquiring the Pentax F* 300 from a fellow forum member here on the marketplace I can honestly say it has produced the best IQ of any lens I've used to date even equalling or bettering my FA 43. I've included some pics of the lens on my K-5. Those pictures were taken with my Pentax WG-3. The last two pictures are taken with the F* 300.

I'm glad it's working out so well. You know I depend on mine.

Heīs not locking them. I can tell because the elbows are not looking to the sides but a little downwards. You canīt lock the elbow without an inward rotation rotating (torsion)

And the results Iīve seen from that lens are incredible. This isnīt the exception.
what is it with F series primes that really stand out? I mean, the modern digital updated versions (i.e. DA300, F50/1.8) are better in charts but F series have a special look

Different people have different elbows (or at least, that's what today's fortune cookie told me).

My elbows lock about 5 degrees shy of 180. Mrs. ElJamoquio goes about 195 (although a doctor measured her at 210, I don't believe that).

Anyway the guys' elbows still look locked to me.

The glass is different somehow. But I couldn't tell you how - you can just see the difference. I think the A and F glass is more similar than any other two generations.

The F*300/4.5, F135/2.8 and F50/1.4 have all managed to creep into my collection over the past few years - I don't know what it is about the glass from that era, but it does seem to produce special results

Thanks for the bird shot Cambo. I just couldn't get muster the courage to do so. So how about a brand new ferris wheel on the river.

I didn't get a tripod foot with mine...... given the size of it it's amazing that people misplace them!

I've bought and fitted an alternative foot to mine.....leave it on all the time now......will post something on it soon....

Some folks love their DA*300s, others their FA*300s, but I think most people appreciate that the F* version is lighter, smaller and fitted with a better mounting foot. I certainly do.

BTW, I've found that a cheap Chinese gimbal head makes mine much more useable on a tripod, and the Pentax FLUcard in the K-3 makes the setup just that little bit more flexible again.
