Vivitar 90mm 2.8 Macro - Photos added

Hi, some one has offered me one of these which has a PS mount?
Having only just purchased my K10D, not knowing much about the various mounts and wanting a decent macro lens could anyone tell me what I would need to mount this to my camera and is the lens any good?

Thanks..

Is it a series 1 90mm

Is it a series 1 90mm? If so it is a very good lens. You will need an M42 to K mount adaptor that will work with all the old screwmount lenses. Does it have the matching macro adaptor?
If it does, it will do true 1:1 macro. If it does not it is still a very sharp 90mm prime with a very close focusing 2:1 capabilities...

Here is a pic from google images of one with the adaptor

I think that may be a true 1:1 macro and if it is, it was a lens that was also branded as some other 3rd party lenses. If it is a M42 screwmount you will need an adaptor...

here is some info on a vivitar 90mm 2.8... not sure if it is the same
90mm f/2.8 Macro M: Aperture range: f2.8 - 22 Optical construction: 6 elements, 4 groups. Angle of acceptance: 27 degrees Weight: 480 g (17 oz.) Length: 89 mm (3.5 in.) Diameter: 70 mm (2.8 in.) Accessory size: 62 mm Lens coating: MC (multicoated) Minimum focusing distance from film plane: 35 cm (13.8 in.) Minimum focusing distance from front element: 14.5 cm (5.7 in.) Maximum reproduction ratio: 1:1 Macro focus operation: Double helicoid permits life-size magnification without adapters or other extenders.

Hopefully someone with it will weigh in....

I like it

here is what I wrote in another thread before:

I have it and I have to say it is a wonderfull lens. I compared it to my Tamron SP 90/2.5, and the performance was very similar.

You can find samples at my flick page here:

And a thread about it at 'the other Pentax forum'

And now take it go out and use it!

90mm f2.8

I have the k mount version of this lens - bought it new almost 30 years ago. I used it for a long time as my primary lense and found it worked well as a 90mm prime and as a 1:1 macro. I have not seen this lense mentioned much lately and wondered if it is a rare one and how it stacks up to sme of the more common macros in this range. Anyone have any other links to reviews or comparisons?
