Why is no one interested in my FA31?

Hello,

I've had my FA31 (mint, 4 months old, black, AIV) advertised for sale here since early May and despite steady price reductions there has been no interest.

Any suggestions why this may be the case?

Thanks.

You can sell any lens if the price is right.

I'd recommend offering to ship within the EU and also quote the price in Euros. That might get you more interest from folks that otherwise skipped over your listing.

Look at the pricing of a new lens in various markets. In Australia, it's A$1200 (including GST) = £662. https://www.pentax.com.au/shop/wide-angle-lenses

Thanks Adam, I'll modify accordingly.

Fair enough, but I've reduced the price well below this!

The issue is always price when things do not sell.

Ask yourself "Would I pay that much (& you know the item best)?"

Keep in mind that each time you offer it out for others to consider, the price it fails to sell at means you just bought it for that price. I suggest you redo your "comparable SOLD " research (the buyer will), take into account its condition and freely share that with your prospect, estimate the price with condition factored in, then price it 10-15% below your price estimate.

I agree with Adam. Only selling within UK is a small market. Everyone within EU can buy without any extra Import Tax / Duty / VAT so if you if you sell within EU I'm sure you'll sell it soon. And if you have PayPal it will be easy to make the money transaction.

Agree with the others. Expand your sale area and hopefully you will draw a buyer out of the wood work.

I do think more expensive lenses in general take longer to sell. Of course if you list it for 200 dollars, you would have to beat the buyers off...

True, but when one adds postage plus the strong possibility of having to pay customs duty it becomes less enticing.

I just checked and found the FA 31 available, post free, from a Pentax agent here for A$1099 (£606)

FWIW, focal length, size, weight combination didn't suit me as well as DA Ltds, so I've decided to concentrate on those.

I understand, Dave. I've hardly used my Sigma 30mm f1.4. I should sell it, too.

He's asking 550 GBP.

I guess part of the problem is that you are in UK and you are listing it in GBP. US buyers won't benefit from purchasing from you, and EU users would probably want to see the euro price.

In the US I believe a fair price for a mint FA 31 is <$900.

The problem with the FA 31 is that it represents a normal focal length on APS-C. In other words, it renders a rather boring perspective. If someone really wants the Limited look and feel the 20-40 is a nice alternative. Sure, it's not quite an FA 31 but having the convenience to zoom a little in either direction makes it more usable. That's the direction I recently went.
