I ordered the 8-16 from Scandinavian Photo (Sweden) some months ago. It took a while, but eventually I got a fresh, new one.
So, I can confirm, first hand, that it can be obtained.

It's a great lens, the images I took with it when I rented it two years ago are still some of my wife's favorites. Once in a while if I talk about lenses she'll ask about it, but it's so expensive on the used market now...
The images it renders are pretty special, particularly for landscapes and odd portraits in front of landscapes.

Why when I select the pentax mount then does it say find a dealer, not check out or place in cart. It goes to this shady little site. With just a box in the top left with a list of shops with numbers but it's all very vague, you don't quite know what you're clicking and when I do get one to go through I just get directions to a store. No option to place an order.

Evening, I just went to the Sigma site (link above), selected the Pentax mount and the "find a dealer" red button came up that I clicked. It looks like Sigma does not compete with their dealers in selling their merchandise (like Pentax does). Of the dealers listed, it appears that the only one that has them in stock is the Camera Mall in MI.

I note on Amazon UK that there is something else, at least a small reassurance; the lens is listed as in stock with two remaining; the listing also states "More on the way". Now that might be an error, but if not it's a good sign for UK Pentax users at least.

I get the impression from some posts by US Pentax users that Pentax has a much smaller market share in the USA than they do in most other places. This might well lead to less effort by Sigma to supply the US dealers.
