DA 55-300mm (Happy Happy - Joy Joy)

I was starting to really like the Sigma 70-300 - got a few nice shots and was getting comfortable with the settings and speed of the lens then it started to show a lot more blue in the shots - in the 180-220 mm range was the worst for this blue effect - Kind of like getting a black and white shot but all in blue.

I took it back to Henry's tonight - figured it might be a bad copy. They were more then willing to exchange it right away, very good service and no hassle, but I just didn't want to try another, so I asked if they had any of the Pentax DA 55-300mm in as of yet and they had just got 3 in that morning. So I said, "Well, you have one less now."

They knocked 50 bucks off the lens and 10 bucks off the UV filter and I paid the difference.

WOW! - Pentax has really put out a sharp little lens here! I am glad I paid the little extra, this is so much better - Very sharp, no PF, faster focus, better feel in the zoom, I think I will be staying with the Pentax lenses from now on. Not that I won't try another Sigma down the road but for the moment I am set.

ISO800 , F8, 300 mm, 1/1000

nice samples, seems like this lens is a keeper.
i predict a lot of 2nd hand Tamron and Sigma 70-300 and DA 50-200s in the marketplace as more people grab this lens

The Sigma's and the Tamron's I agree, but the DA 50-200 is still a little sharper, and a little faster, it would be worthwhile to keep if you already have it, but not so much to buy if you don't and plan on getting the DA 50-300.

Beautiful shots! I've been trying to buy this lens but no one seems to have it in stock. Where is Henry's? and may I ask what price you paid.
Thanks and happy shooting

For a $50 savings, I can wait on Adorama. If I don't have it before the 17th when I leave for vacation, I guess I'll just have to do with the 105 as my longest lens length.

As I was returning a Sigma 70-300 APO, we think defective as it turned many of my shots blue, they were trying to keep me happy so the lens was 400.00 CDN with the Hoya 58 mm UV at a reduced price also.

I picked up one today at Lens and Shutter in Vancouver. It was a little more, $450 cdn but other stores in town said it was not even on their list.

I have only had a chance to run down to Crescent beach and snap a fiew quick images but I think I like it!

No apparent color fringing and quite sharp. I found a couple of shots against the bright sky that required a fair levels adjust but I did not have my glasses with me so I could not change settings on the camera without a lot of guessing. Note to self, Do not go anywhere without glasses!

Here is one shot over the fence and about 20 feet away

I thought about ordering one from 17photo for about $435 w/shipping. But after calling Adorama about their estimate on how long the lens is backordered for, I ordered from them. I was told it would be about 10 days when it would be shipped. That was 6 days ago. I also received an e-mail from Adorama saying their experience with backorders was about 10-14 days, so hopefully we'll get our orders in less than 2 weeks and in time for your vacation.
