If you keep them at the same magnification, DOF is independent of focal length. I guess only Sigma 180 might fit your bill, but I don't know the current market price. You do need a good flash for these long lens though since you need a much higher shutter speed to get a decent shot, unless you're willing to lug a tripod around. The working distance is definitely longer; however, people still get great bug shots with those shorter focal length so 180 or 200 macro is not really a must. I believe the Sigma 180 macro isn't as good as other shorter macros, resolution-wise.

Those would be out of your price range. Any OEM 200 macro is, at least, going for ~$1500. The Pentax A* 200 macro is $2000 currently, the FA* is around 1.5x to 2x that.

The Tamron 90mm can be used with extention tubes, I read good things about this one ??
How 'bout the Sigma 180mm APO ??

Please , recommend some good ones

Many on this Forum highly recommend the Vivitar Series 1 105/2.5 Macro. If you can tolerate a 12" working distance for a 1" bug to fill the entire frame you will be pleased with the results.

I especially like the long focus throw - there is LOTS of room in the helicoid for fine focus adjustment. With the A setting this lens works just fine with my K10D.

Here is a link to a pbase page of some random bug photos taken with this lens and usually a K10D. They change every time you click the link, but there are always some bugs

Vivitar Series 1 105/2.5 Macro

Where can I get this lens ??
JESUS,

The name above all names.

I have this vivitar 105 macro bought from ebay last year and is availble in Kiron/vivitar .... Others within the same focal lenth is tamron 90mm/sigma 105/pentax dfa 100mm and others. Price range maybe in the region US 500 and below. My vivitar last yr was bought for US 220 inc. shipping, old stock-new lens.
Great lens and great optics that gives 1:1. Price has gone up since. Still afordable compare to others.

I have just got A200 macro pentax and at much higher price. Great optics and silky smooth bokeh or creamy bokeh. Great for bugs, insects ie greater working distance. I am still learing on this new lens. Downside is the wieght- heavy. Perspiring all over when I go out shooting bugs with tis lens.

As mentioned in the earlier post, dept of field is shallow even at f8, f11 either with vivitar 105 or A200.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-your-photos/26959-a200-macro-few-images-insects.html

hope this helps.

DoF of 105mm focal length lens at 15" from subject and f/16 is about 1/4 inch. At 15" a 2" object will fill the entire APS-c frame, sharp focus, with the Viv. I tried it tonight with 3 pennies and they filled the frame at 13' or 14"

I'd sell my VIVS1 for $500, but the only downside to that is, where do I get a replacement, so then I probably wouldn't sell it just for that reason alone.

There have been several threads recently, including a long one yesterday, about the company Camera Lens Rentals that just added Pentax lenses to is line.

Go here to look at their offerings for the DA 200 f/2.8 ED (IF)

Online Camera Lens Rental for Canon, Nikon, and PENTAX Cameras

and here for the Rental agreement.
