Neebie Lens Questions

Here is a question that may have been answered before but if someone could help me on this I would be grateful.

I have a Pentax K-100D. I have the 18-55mm kit lens, a Pentax 10-17mm wide angle zoom and a Quantaray 70-300mm. (Believe it or not I have had decent results with this lens)

I like to photograph scenery, nature, birds, macro, and once a year the Formula One cars in Montreal. I’m not looking to do portrait work but do take lots pics of my kids with the 70-300mm while they are playing. I would keep the Pentax 18-55mm and the Pentax 10-17mm.

What would someone recommend as a good mix of lenses to cover these subjects? I am open to Sigma, Tamron, or Takina lenses. I know I need to look at a dedicated Macro but that can wait for now. My first priority would be a good telephoto that is fast – for the June F1 race in Montreal. But like everyone I can’t buy them all at once and would like limit it to less than $1300.

I appreciate any input.

not sure if it will be out before the race at Circuit Gilles Villeniueve ( impressed that I know the track name? hehe, I LOVE F1 racing ) But Tamron is coming out with a 70-200 F 2.8 in the near? future. You could also keep an eye on the marketplace here for the Sigma version of the same lens, also check Ebay.

Heck, for $1300 you could keep the FE, sell the others and get the DA*16-50 and 50-135mm. OR keep the kit lens, get the DA*50-135mm with a Tamron 1.4x TC when extra reach is needed and the Tamron 28-75mm for portraits and still have about $300 left over for a macro. You could even use the kit lens for light macro work with some magnifying filters on it, that is what I used when I first got my kit and worked very well.
