on a ff camera, at 500mm, the tamron 150-600 looks like it stomps all over every one of the xxx-500 sigmas, at least in this test:
Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens Image Quality
tamron 150-600 vs. canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM, @400mm, $779(after rebate) vs. $2199(b&h):
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens Image Quality
i'd call that better than comparable, but obviously we'd all pick the canon zoom if we could afford it.
these 150-600mm superzooms, both sigma and tamron, are solid bargains; you can see that from the sigma zoom blowout..
things are not perfect, dpr says that the tamron is a bit weaker on crop, and my copy of the tamron has distortion at 600mm, and some weird vignetting(hood?) in the top left corner... it's also slightly decentered at the wide end, where i'll never use it... this is 600mm, f/8, iso500, off of a monopod, on the a7r/laea4 adapter:
