Tamron Macros

In the images , you can see that one of the lenses has a gold ring and black text on it and the other has no ring and gold text. Same lens (Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1). What is the difference between the two lenses? Are they the exact same optically? Why does one have a gold ring and the other not? I'm looking to buy one used today, but it has the gold ring and I don't know if that is a problem.

Actually no, I don't see.

What I see is three lenses, each with a gold ring, and where, for all I know, the leftmost lens is positioned so that some text is showing on the gold ring.

I did, however, see your other post, where you show two photos that do in fact demonstrate the difference.

The one with the gold band is the VC model that has built in image stablization.

They both have the same name and box...Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro. I don't believe this is the case, as I don't believe Tamron makes the same lens with stabilization for Pentax.

Lens Line: Macro; Tamron USA, Inc.

Always useful to check the manufacturer's catalog.

Models F004 and 272

No, the one I posted with the gold ring is not model #F004. It has an aperture ring and totally different design. It is also not made in the Pentax mount.

The one I have on my K-30 has the gold ring and is marked 272E on the underside. Love this lens!

Yep you are right I looked at the ones at Tamron online and didn't look at my copy. It too has the gold band so I have no clue why the difference

I contacted Tamron directly...they said that "the difference is only cosmetic" and that there "is no functional difference between these lenses".
