pentax-a SMC 35-80mm any good?

I found my old pentax-a smc 35-80mm. I haven't used it in about 10 years. I used it today on my k10d. the picture didnt look to sharp. Is it worth keeping?

That's entirely up to you. Have you tried any other manual focus lenses on your camera with better results? Are you using the stock focus screen? If so, a split-prism screen may solve your problem.

how do i get a split prism into a k10d? I haven't done much manual focusing in a long time. I use to be very good at it on my k1000.

Let's hope one of the nice people who actually own one come by to help answer that question. The K10D is actually designed to allow for user-changed screens, so it shouldn't be a major problem. Even on the K100D (which is what I have) which is not suppposed to have user-changeable screens it is a relatively simple matter to change.

Pentax DSLRs - Katz Eye Optics

or ebay

Diagonal Split Image Focus Screen for Pentax k10D k20D - eBay (item 350062176023 end time May-27-08 09:25:14 PDT)

personally, I'm going to go w/ the katzeye since it does not black out as quickly as the ebay model w/ smaller apertures. pricier, but more useable....imo

I hace found after shooting a bit with my Super Takumars that afocussing screen might be a very good idea ... It's not too bad now ... but I think it will really help when t comes to focussing in average light.

I use the cheapo screen from the same eBay seller.
With this screen and the O-ME53 magnifying eyecup, I can achieve spot on MF 99% of the time. My total cash outlay is about $70, much cheaper than Katz Eye.

Don't get me wrong - Katz Eye is a good product and its customer support is excellent, so I read from this and other forums. But everyone's mileage is different. So I am just offering you another alternative.

Here is a pictorial guide to change the focusing screen. It is no sweat at all.
