DA* 50-135 and close up filter have anyone tried it?

I love my da* 50-135 but I would like to be able to come little bit closer so I was thinking about close up filter....but I can't find anything about that combo on google.
If anyone tried that combo please share your experience. How it afects IQ,what brand to buy,how closer were you able to focus.
I don't nead it for macro. I would just like to come little bit closer for portrait shots.
Thanx in advance
Dario

An extension tube (aka a Tamron AF teleconverter with the glass removed) would probably be a better solution if you just want to decrease the minimum focusing distance.

Hi

Not sure if this link helps
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/259058-cano...-60-250mm.html

I purchased the canon 500d lens following this post and use it on my 60-250 and I'm suprised at how well it works. If you are interested to learn more I can put it on my 50-135 and check it out.

PS, it is evening here so would need to test in around 12 hours.

Thanx for quick reply Adam.
I live in Croatia and it's hard to find Pentax accessories on used market That's why I look for close up lenses. They are easy to find here.
I'll have to switch brand)))) Just kidding.)

Thanx Bob! When you find some time to try it please do. I don't nead it for macro so I would be purcesing lens with less magnification but it should work the same.)

I've tried out these (Set makro predle? 62mm (+1, +2, +4, +10) | Makro fotografija | Foto oprema | Studijska | Objektivi | Samyang | Canon | Nikon | Lensbaby | DSLR baterije | baterijska dr?ala | Ljubljana) on my 18-135. The lower diopters seemed to work well enough throughout the range, but the stronger ones produced strong distortion towards the edges as I zoomed in. I think the +1 and +2 might work well on the 50-135.

SMC Pentax-DA* 50-135mm F2.8 ED [IF] SDM Reviews - DA Zoom Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database Is this the lens ?

100cm for closest focus ?

Its a big ask to make it Macro-ish , do you have a DA 18-55 AL ? , these are a lot easier to play with for close focus , a +4 or +8 close focus filter does wonders .

He only wants to decrease the MFD a bit for close portraits.

Giklab thanx for sharing
I have played with macro lenses before but that was on 18-50 kit lens 2 years ago.
Right now I'm more interested in shrinking minimal focus distance so I can crop part of models face in camera. That way i would have IMHO incredible tool for portraits.))

Assuming you're at the 135 end, not the 50...

minimum focus distance
No tube: 1087mm
9.5mm tube: 864.1mm
19mm tube: 746.4mm
28.5mm tube: 675.7 mm
57mm tube: 577.9 mm

Of course, you're losing a lot of depth of field when you add tubes.

Another option, but probably not a good one for what you're trying to do... but if you really want just a *little* bit more minimum focus distance, increase the aperture so you have more depth of field.
At 2.8 and 43 inches you have about 1/10 of an inch in either direction. At f/11 you get almost a half inch in either direction.
neither of those seem like sufficient depth of field for a decent portrait.
So maybe you're using 50mm. At 2.8 you have a bit under an inch in either direction, and f/11 gives you a bit over 3 inches in either direction.. your subject could move forward a couple of inches. You'd have to flip focus to manual and set it to the minimum, but you'd get that extra space. At f/22 you'd get a full 6 inches, but probably have diffraction.

I am not sure close-up lens will help with this. I presume the lenses mentioned are similar to the Raynox close-up lens...? I have only used the Raynox M150 lens some on 77 and 135mm lenses. So, similar focal lengths. I tried them just to see the magnification I would get. The working distance is closer but it is much restricted in working depth... It isn't just that you can focus closer and then work backward to the distance you are accustomed to.. You can only move back and forth a short distance with the close focus lens on. Sometimes this in only a couple inches! Then, you have to take it off for regular working distance. I made note of minimum and maximum working distance with Raynox M150 here Raynox stuff: different focal lengths & AOV: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review 135mm, 77, 50, 35, 21 are included Oh, Pentax Forums suggests I introduce myself. I guess this is it.

Narual first of all thank you for your theral explanation) That's why I LOVE this forum
I should've give you more informations about what I want.
I primerly use that lens for studio work and that means I use small aperatures.F 5,6 is largest aperature I use. Usualy it's around f8-f11. It depends on lighting set up. I don't like to push it bellow f16 because of difraction. When you have beutiful glass why not use it at sweet spot?

Tan68 I played with rynox 150 and that's diferent thing. I was thinking more like +1 close up lens so I don't get much magnification and distortion. Just to get me little bit closer. For example with native minimum FD i can frame head and neck. What I'm trying to get is forehead and chin. With extension tubes I lose light and that's not what I want. My goal with this thread was to get some first heand experience from someone who tryed that combo. Something like that on the link that Bob from Aus have posted.
Hope that helps.
Once again thank you all for your effort to help me.
I just love this forum

Try adding a tele convertor. The MFD doesn't change.

This is uncropped, K5 with a 50-135 and Kenko 1.5 TC at 123 MM, so MFD was still about 3 FT or 1 M.

This is a Tamron 28-75 with Kenko 1.5 so MFD is 1 FT or .3 M. Slight crop.

close up canon 500d close up lens test with 50-135

No sun so a lack of depth of field.

I'd suggest the result is very respectable. When the closeup lens is attached the distance that the camera can focus from front to back is very limited.
