i think i have a pentax K-x with K-m firmware,

i think i have a pentax K-x with K-m firmware, i have opened the camera and confirmed this by googling for K-x mainboard (ran out of upload space so cannot be sure if uploaded pics were accepted, wish i can delete my earlier pic, i could not), but the firmware reads as K-m .
this has issues, underexposing erratic, practically useless.
can i change the firmware to K-x, if so how, ricehigh blog does not have it, will hack help, tried upgrading the firmware both K-m and K-x does not upgrade any idea/thoughts how to work this.
the first picture is of k-x which matches the camera which i am working on and not the second pic which ought to be of K-m which is not the main board.( all thanks to google)

(Seriously i think this forum is ripe for external funding, atleast then larger space would be made available)

Regarding the images - just use an external host like flickr or photobucket and imbed using the [IMG] [/IMG} tags.

All firmware can be downloaded here: Software Downloads : Support & Service | RICOH IMAGING

Have you tried loading the appropriate one before disassembling the camera?

Huh?
  • How is the firmware reading as K-m?
  • May I ask why you have disassembled your K-x
  • RiceHigh is not (in my experience) a reliable a sometimes useful, but unreliable (in my experience), source of Pentax information

As noted above, all official firmware downloads are available through Ricoh.

thanks n further info

@crewl1 the lazy way is to attach it there from the HDD, Ricoh site gives the update i downloaded both updates of firmware for K-m & K-x does not accept, ( i have updated my cameras k10d, k-r earlier and k-7 before)
@stevebrot
its reading as PENTAX K-M, VER:0.10
i brought it as junk thinking it was a normal problem of grease at moveable parts which has melted and was affecting the circuitry or some wire/cable had come off, thus opened it, the camera does not have ANY k-x or k-m labels and on checking the firmware version it reflected pentax k-m & 0.10? BUT on menu jpeg is 14M, the white balance is not operational, heavily underexposing thus the further digging, k-m is a ccd and k-x is cmos if i am correct then its only firmware.
by the way its my hobby to tinker.
Ricehigh largely aggregates info thats ok, on its correctness some info is better than none as long as one knows that authenticity is not assured, wish dslr were open source, some manufacturer who goes open source might make a killing or kill himself

That is very strange, since that is not a valid K-m firmware version. You said that the camera has no labeling? Perhaps it was a K-m/K2000 prototype.

Updating firmware on an early model may not be practical, ie may not be compatible...

Regarding the source of the camera- maybe it was discarded after a repair gone wrong, or ended up with a prototype board, as you said.

Neither K-x (12MP) or K-r (12MP) or K-m (10MP) had 14 MP. The only Pentax 14.6 MP APS-C's in recent memory have been the K-20D and K-7.
