I do have a Tammy 17-50 and although its not the sharpest lens around it has very reasonable IQ. Also bokeh is very nice

Great photos, Norm.

I think this is a wonderful lens - and inexpensive.

Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 VC XR Di ll LD Interchangeable Lens Review

If I walk around with a two zoom kit, it's this one and the DA* 50-135.

Just curious, what do you think is the sharpest lens around and why?

Those are all Tess's images but one... she doesn't let me use it very often. There's snarls and growls if I even touch it.

.

İn my bag Tamron 90mm Macro is fairly sharp as well as my DA 40 ltd. Generally speaking and including zooms my old Canon 70-200 f2.8 L was sharp.

but if its the case of "walk around lens" i dont really know. However at any f stop its sharper than my Canon 24-105 f4

I did compare my Tamron 17-50 to my DA21 at aperture f/5.6 in infinity with lots of trees in shot. (where they both are sharp)
While in terms of overal sharpness they are toe to toe, in pixel peeping level the DA21 has more micro contrast, which you would expect from a limited prime lens.

Don't ask about f/4, my DA21's corner sharpness is quite poor there while the Tammy is fantastic across the frame.

You can check my shots with the Tamron here. and with DA21 here. if you are interested.

My copy is sharper at 17/f3.5 tha 18-135
at 18/f8. I believe there are bad copies! a good 17-50 is just fantasy..not a prime but..It's just like 3 average primes..

Use caution. The database only contains uploaded photos and many of those have been munged by the forum software and are not as sharp as the originals.

You would rather use something as this Full-size sample photos from Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8
